The maracas sound you're using is velocity sensitive (like quite a few of the TD-20 percussion sounds).

That kit does have actual CY-5 cymbals, not the single-zone lookalikes. So they should get separate bow/edge sounds and be chokeable.
Make sure the stereo L-plugs are really fully inserted into the cymbals; they can be very stiff when they're brand-new; push again, harder!Leave a comment:

They can all make a difference (especially Input and TrigTyp on a TD6V).

It sounds like perhaps you connected both Left and Right Master outputs, which can cancel each other so that you only hear ambience through a mono PA.
