I can hear a difference in resolution from 16bit(CD) to 24bit(DVD), others claim there isn't a discernable one, whatever to that one. Unless you're a studio pro it just won't matter. Have you tried changing the CC# event the hi-hat is sending from the Drumkat? Kit edit screen #8. It sounds like it's set to pitch bend, try setting it to 4 foot control an see if that makes a difference. If there's no change then set the channel to N, that will at least stop the pitch bending. Refer...

No disadvantage with an SP-404SX at all. It looks like a great unit. There's other stuff that he may want to be aware of that he isn't at the moment. It's exciting to be at the begining of all this, I used an Emu E4XT for years as my main instrument, big samplers are fun to use and offer flexibility...
