The internal EQ so far has played a factor in bad sound clarity for all TD modules, and seems like the effects always degrade the sound output and it seems the TD-20 is no different. Aside from individual instrument volume, kit volume, faders and maybe the sensitivity there is nothing else to raise in the module. Getting a headphone amp or an outboard mixer will help to get more gain.

Did you adjust the rim sensitivity from Roland to Hart? I have my rim sensitivity set at 2 and I can play on the rim using a pencil and get very good tracking.
