I can't speak to IEM's, but I find headphones more dangerous than speakers in that regard. I find my tinnitus tweaked really easily by headphones, but with speakers the distances are greater, the sound more dispersed, and there seems to be more warning....

Sounds like hinge has worn down a tad on the inside and has some play?
If you can take the hinge apart by removing a central bolt or screw, maybe you could thread a narrow piece of materiel in there. Maybe straight across, or maybe weaving in and out so metal can not hit metal. Perhaps...

OOh... that was very nice. Felt sure he was going to break into the Star Trek theme when he switched to that spacy chorus effect, but... no joy. Love the bass player, just sitting there, looking and playing so competent. Drummer was good, too. He needed more toms, tho, for fusion....

That was very pretty indeed.Wonderful chorus section. Lovely guitar tones. And the drummer played with WAY more restraint than I would have.
It would have been great fun to play that song straight for a while, and then take it to new places....

LOL! Good to know I'm not the only tinkerer who has messed up once or twice. That's a good story.
My first guess would have been bad shielding on the connecting cable made it act like an antenna, but I am not often right about that sort of thing....
