I can't speak to IEM's, but I find headphones more dangerous than speakers in that regard. I find my tinnitus tweaked really easily by headphones, but with speakers the distances are greater, the sound more dispersed, and there seems to be more warning....Leave a comment:

Sounds like hinge has worn down a tad on the inside and has some play?
If you can take the hinge apart by removing a central bolt or screw, maybe you could thread a narrow piece of materiel in there. Maybe straight across, or maybe weaving in and out so metal can not hit metal. Perhaps...Leave a comment:

OOh... that was very nice. Felt sure he was going to break into the Star Trek theme when he switched to that spacy chorus effect, but... no joy. That was very pretty indeed. Wonderful chorus section. Lovely guitar tones. And the drummer played with WAY more restraint than I would have.

I assure you that playing on a Roland Vdrum mesh head will indeed wear down your wooden drum stick tips. No doubt about it.
