    All is not lost.

It's your choice whether you give up drums to concentrate on guitar-playing only, but I don't think you have to.

(I also wonder if guitar playing is as hard on your carpal tunnel as drumming)

I was in your situation not long ago. I had...

  • There are plenty of jazz drummers out there who do solo drum stuff. As of yet there are no electronic-kit drummers that I'm aware of, other than Verderosa. However, the following may be of interest. Max Roach - one of the grandfathers of be-bop drumming has recorded several drum solo composition...

    R.I.P. Ron Spagnardi

Mr. Spagnardi lost the battle to cancer yesterday, according to the Modern Drummer website. Very sad. His magazine was a tremendous resource to drummers of all styles and levels, not to mention a huge contribution to the overall drumming community. Check out some of his books, too. Good works...

When I was first getting into jazz, I found the following two books to be very helpful: The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD by Brian Morton and Richard Cook (new edition just released in the US) The MusicHound Jazz Essential Album Guide Those helped immensely. Jazz is a big thing. It's huge. T...

    Johnny Cash R.I.P.

The Man in Black is dead. Another great, just as he was being rediscovered by a new generation, gone. I cannot listen to the old Sun Records recording of 'I Walk the Line' and 'Without Love' or the (Columbia?) recording of 'I Still Miss Someone' without something gripping me in the chest. One...

    replied to Portable V Session
When I first got my V-drums this is almost exactly the configuration I got. I couldn't afford the whole set (probably still can't), but I was able to eke out enough scratch to get a TD-10, two PD-120's and a PD-100. I already had an extra four PD-7s an extra FD-7 and KD-7, aside from my full TD-7...

If you want to learn to count any preset sequence on the TD-10, simply activate the click track function while the sequence is playing, and set it to the voice, which will count out the beats for you.

  • I'm not advocating the TDA-700, just pointing it out. It seems engineered for electronic drum sounds, so if you wanted your own sound vs. sharing with bandmates (personally, I'd want my own - bands don't last forever, and you can go on your own gigs and such) it might be a simple -- though really,...

This listing has been annoying me all day. The price makes no sense. Even if you wanted to break it down into smaller kits, plus sell the other stuff separately, it doesn't add up to even the starting list price. Consider: I think, sensibly, you could get three kits: a full V-Session, an incomple...

  • No one's brought up the TDA-700 'V-drum' Amp. This is supposed to be a one-stop electronic drum amplifier with a subwoofer for performance purposes. I V-forumites have had little experience with this, so there is little testimonial to go on. But maybe you should try this out, if possible.

He spent $ 3,200 on a keyboard just for MIDI triggering sounds from his drum modules? Can't you get a MIDI keyboard for a couple hundred bucks -- or less -- that can do that? What a waste.* This and the huge kit make me think that the Guitar Center salesment saw him coming a mile away. "Hey, I ne...

Modern Drummer had a feature a year or two ago on electronic drums (Omar Hakim was on the cover, posing with his TD-10) which included a summary chronology of electronic drum/drum machine products, including the Synare, the Simmons kits, the Linndrum, the Tama Techstar, and some other gems which I hadn't...

In attempting to perform a fast triplet pattern from the high tom to floor tom, on a 4-piece kit with an awkward distance between the two drums, I would play:

    Hi tom - rll

    Floor tom - rrl

The 'll' on the high tom allowed for the right hand to travel the distance...
