    It is an option, just not with a Roland module. There are a number of other manufacturers that made this possible in the past few years and more offerings have/are just hitting the market, so in this regard Roland is behind the curve.   • The TD-8 only supports basic control. I had a TD-8 with a variable pedal and that got me the in-between sounds, but that wasn't as good by a large margin as my TD-20 with VH-12's. (Your TD-10 w/card might support a variable pedal.)

    TD-20 and 30 prices are pretty good, but take a look...

    All the pads are compatible with newer modules. Some features of newer pads may not be supported fully with older modules (a dual trigger in a module that only supports single trigger, of instance).

    Care to specifically define "stopped working" and any info on what might have...

    Expensive repair, replacement, or live with it. With the new modules from Alesis, Pearl, and others, the prices for used units should be dropping and that might be the best low cost solution.
