  • The evolution of my kit (and drumming mind) so far

I've owned drum machines, but haven't had one for a long time. I've tried programming drum patterns with a mouse. Blech. I've entered parts with a MIDI keyboard. Other than having to do it in multiple passes and needing to edit the slop and mistakes, it's a step in the right direction.

  • OK, well that's very interesting if that's the way they work. Reviewing the DDTI manual, it does not appear that there is any way to differentiate between an edge hit and a choke. Each trigger input (there are 20) can be set for either piezo or a switch. I figure if I really want to implement a cymbal...

    Dumb question about cymbal triggers

I'm looking at Roland CY-8. It says it's dual-zone and is chokeable. I would like to trigger Addictive Drums 2 via MIDI. On the AD2 sets, cymbal choking is accomplished by hitting a note near the regular note (i.e. auditioning on a MIDI keyboard).

So I'm wondering how these triggers work

Building up drum tracks bit by bit

I decided to get an electronic drum thing going in my little recording space because I need to have some drum parts for songs I've written. Now maybe eventually I will be able to get a real drummer to record real drums but I'm starting here.

I had a Yamaha RX-11 I think it was, back in...

DAW control from the drum position

I'm getting back into doing some recording in my little 10x10 space (if that). I have to make it really easy to do because pressing buttons and checking levels and all that engineering stuff is on the opposite site of the see-saw from the musical creativity side. I recently discovered "TouchDAW"...

  • Well, I see what you mean. In my case I'm not coming from having developed any great amount of drum technique. I can bang on things with sticks in a semi rhythmic fashion. I cannot at this moment combine that with my feet. So whatever I do will involve some learning. I'm unlikely to drop $1000 on a...

  • Epiphany regarding VST (Addictive Drums)

I'm trying to go slow as regards building up an e-drum setup, as many times in the past I have thought that some particular piece of gear would be "the one" to unlock whatever creative roadblock I'm encountering. and you know how that goes, it almost never is. So I have my 6 rubber pads and...

OK, I tracked down these Gibraltar clamps that claim they'll go down to 0.5" so that seems fine. Just need to choose the rod diameter for the Alesis/Roland pads. Anyone know what diameter those are? [hint: I think they are 9.5 mm, Gibraltar clamp SC-LRAC available for $25 at <major commerce...

    Clamps for an 0.88" tube?

I got started on the cheap by using an old Ion non-MIDI kit (6 hard rubber pads) with a Drum DDTI.

I'd like to add a mesh pad or two, but am stalled because I don't know how I'd mount them on this rack.

The tube diameter is 0.88". I'm interested in some of the Alesis/Roland/Pintech...

    Hello

Not really a drummer, more a guitar/bass player wanting to get more individualistic/matching rhythms into my home recordings. Don't like messing with drum machine patterns trying to find one that matches. Can't stand auditioning rhythm loops for the same reason. Figured it would be easier to play...
