  • Agreed... Most of the Roland PSU bricks are fairly sturdy. And on the higher end, they use NEMA 5-15 to C13 (standard PC / monitor) plugs.

With the Mimic plug, I agree that although you can likely get an exact spec generic power brick that you're probably better served with a factory provided...

For OEMs, I've used both the Audio Technica ATH-M50x and the V-MODA Crossfade M-100 - and while I personally believe the sound of the V-MODA's are a little crisper, I have to admit that the M50x's are just a gold standard especially at the price point. FWIW, both have great isolation and bass response....

As mentioned, Iíd probably recommend a TD-30, but it does come at somewhat of a cost... Usually around $1200-$1400 depending on condition. But itís a rock solid module and there are several upgrades from VEX to Drum-Tec out there to help get a fuller, more dynamic tone out of it....

  • Maybe try some tension / lug locks? I would try and go that route before I used thread locker personally. Or maybe some plumbers pipe tape on the top threads of the lug - just before you hit tension on the head.... both options should be easily removed if you needed to try something else

  • Because I use VSTs pretty much exclusively these days, I have to admit that this is a product better served for guys like me rather than others looking to expand inputs for local module samples... The reason I say this is actually relative to what I believe pushed Rolandís decision to move away from...

  • That would certainly be a welcomed update... I love some of the samples in SSD5, but I honestly find the interface clumsy and somewhat lacking in essential features for live triggering. Fingers crossed this unleashed a better overall experience....

  • Both are definitely options... pricey yes, but certainly deliver on quality and performance. I think if I was looking to pick up a ready-made kit, it would definitely be based on ATVís catalog....

As noted by others, thereís definitely some considerations that should be accounted for before...

  • Yeah I think any mesh head is going to throw off tone control that you would want for play/practice purposes. If you need to go quiet, it might be time to consider an A2E conversion...

Not the cheapest, but likely the better end solution that wonít leave you feeling underwhelmed when you...

  • Well if you want to save some money, then buy a cheap 13Ē snare, some Remo silent strokes (or other inexpensive mesh head), and then drop a Pintech trigger into the shell... For about $300 you could pick up all of the following and have it up and running in about 20 minutes. Thatís less than most low-to-mid...

Unfortunately I donít have anything with just the core library... I stack all of my drums and use various samples and mixers from the Core, Rock Foundry, Progressive Foundry, Metal Machinery, and Orchestral libraries. Happy to share if you happen to have those libraries and/or want to see if itíll import...

FWIW - hot spots are not just a center mount issue.... If you smack the crap out of the exact spot where the piezo is, youíre going to get a ďhotĒ signal. Simple as that.

But hereís the thing - if you tune your trigger correctly and play lightly in that spot, youíll get a soft hit signal....

  • Iím VERY interested... but definitely need more inputs. Iím currently at 22 including 2 for hihats and 2 for my ride, but could easily add another 4 pads if my module(s) could handle it.

For what itís worth, I run R-Drums triggers and ATV cymbals with a couple of Roland PD-8 pads for voicing....

I just drilled mine out... if you wanted to ever go back to stock acoustic, you could always just pick up some new air vent grommets from somewhere like this:

    replied to Rack or Stands?
Iím currently using stands, but considering going back to a custom rack as my kit is getting a bit unruly in managing the various pads and cables these days. So as I pondered my own direction, I was curious what you guys thought about racks vs stands for an eDrum rig. Purely opinion related topic, but...

Just curious on what the latest opinion is with eDrum kits in mind. A2E, Roland, ATV, whatever youíre beating up these days - what would you use or what do you use?

replied to Megadrum : should I buy ?
For what itís worth, I own a MegaDRUM 56-input and itís currently sitting in a box because I was never able to get my hihats dialed in to an acceptable level. In my case I use the ATV hats - which are powered and could still be the reason as to why I had so many issues - but according to Dimitri it...
