I specifically called output latency - not full chain latency...

And yes, I’ll agree that pci-e bus will ALWAYS be faster than any USB or FireWire standard. But the OP didn’t ask about the that - they asked whether or not a Focusrite Scarlett was a good solution given their...

  • For me, I spent some time mapping each of the VSTs I use to a custom channel on my module(s). Then I augmented using the midi note assignment in each of the VSTs that I wanted to run and saved those as the default map. What I now have is a fairly normalized midi setup and a fluid VST library selection...

So if you’re running into SD3, you can run both modules direct to your Mac or PC via USB and select both under the midi device option under settings...

That way, you could run your eDrumin with PS for your snare, ride, and whatnot, while the TD-6 handles more basic triggers like kick,...

  • I think really Pearl missed a solid opportunity to create a kit that could stand toe to toe with ATV and Roland... Instead of building off of the success and reputation of the Mimic PRO, they released a cobbled up mess and relied on old Korg tech to make it stand out. Shame... Shame... Shame...

I use a focusrite clarett 4pre USB-C and get about ~2ms of latency for output. I run my TD-30 module over standard USB direct to my PC and connect the clarett direct to the PC over USB-C. I could run midi from the TD-30 thru the clarett as it has a midi in, but I’ve never experienced enough latency...

Some of the snare stacks I’ve heard on YouTube have definitely been worthy of a purchase, but I haven’t committed yet either. Thomann has the SDX available for instant download at $128, but I’ll likely wait until the holiday sale season to see if it dips a little lower.

While I do agree that some manufacturers are a little pricey with their pads and cymbals, I fully believe in paying for quality vs the cheapest thing that’ll get the job done.

For me personally, the biggest price differences in drumming in general that I see is in pedals... Where...

  • Vintage Rock EZX is the little step brother to the Custom and Vintage SDX. Give that a shot and see if it’s got the sound you’re looking for...

  • I don’t own a TD-50 module, but my initial instinct would be that you’d need an additional module to control the VH-11 hats... you could feed both tracks into your DAW, and mix independently, but you’d need to change the CC assignment if you’re intending on layering in any VST...

  • Budget drives all decisions.... Bargains are out there, but are subjective to your available funds...

I would really try to dial that in first before you spend too many cycles hunting for the right gear....

It doesn’t have midi in, and I’m not sure about using usb to accept midi signals...??? Anyone here using a TM-6 and an SPD that feels like testing this?...

I love where this thread is going... but yeah, maybe a new thread in DIY or a group PM. If you start thinking it through, this could also be applied to the pads for a completely new approach to measure strike position... Something currently done by only one particular company using a completely different...

  • I use an R-Drums RTB-BD trigger in my 22x18” bass drum and while yes - it does have a louder sound profile than a 14” kick pad solution - I would absolutely recommend going this route. Playing a full size kick is more about feel and inspiration than acoustics. Period. If you’re okay...

100% agree. Audio sample quality and library options continue to get better, but HW innovation is definitely flat. Even with ATV’s multi-piezo architecture and Rolands new digital pads, it’s essentially taking existing trigger tech and applying a “more must be better” approach....
