    Thanks!

I actually did buy some Stealth cymbal triggers and tried them out on my L80 hi-hats and one of the crashes. I found that the presence of the trigger really deadened the feel of the cymbals, to the point where I felt like I might as well be using rubber cymbal pads. Cymbals are...

    My A2E kit:

    - PDP Concept LTD shell pack in Olive Stain Lacquer with black hardware. 7x10 and 8x12 rack toms, 14x16 floor tom, 16x22 kick, and 5.5x13 snare.
    - Batter side drum heads are drum-tec real feel. Resonant heads are Remo SilentStroke. Pintech SilenTrim on toms and snare....

replied to Considering upgrading TD-9 to TD-17 module
I used to own a TD-17 and I thought it was a pretty good module, especially for the price. I sold it after a few months because I wanted an acoustic set, but then after a few more months I started an A2E conversion and needed a drum module again, lol. I ended up getting sucked in by the bright shininess...

  • Hi, I work as a medical provider in Family Medicine and Urgent Care clinics.

I wouldn't say that it's necessarily from your drumming. Plantar fasciitis is just super common, more so in my experience around 35-45 years old. It can be aggravated by activity (most often running, and possibly...

    Recording How-To

Sorry for the very basic questions I'm about to ask, but I am just starting to dip my toe into the world of home recording and would like some help getting the best sound without going overboard. At the moment, the only thing I'm looking to record is myself playing along with drumless tracks, so that...

replied to Gen 16 Cymbals: My Analysis
Well, I got the Gen16s in today. The hi-hat had a weird high-pitched ringing overtone that I didn't really like, and I figured out how to fit the pickup to my L80 hi-hat, so I'm just going to return the Gen16 cymbals and use the pickups on my L80 set (this was my original plan, but the pickup I bought...

Thanks for your review. I have these on order and they should arrive tomorrow.

I, too, basically just want to be able to integrate real cymbal playing feel with my quiet practice kit (A2E with mesh heads triggered to Pearl Mimic Pro) for home use. I'm trying to be realistic in my expectations,...

  • The Roland CY-12Cs & CY-13R should mount on a regular cymbal stand, you just need to wire them to the module. If you have the TD-17KVX (i.e., w/ 2 crash cymbals) you will need a boom arm to mount off of one of those cymbal stands that come with the Imperial Start kit, which looks set up to only...

  • When I had a TD-17KVX, I replaced the floor tom PDX-8 with a PDX-100. While I enjoyed the larger playing area (not to mention aesthetic improvement) I found the hot-spotting to be an issue. I don't really understand how people tolerate it, as I tend to hit my drums fairly close to center as much as...

  • Just because I'm familiar with PDP, you could try the New Yorker. The kick drum is only 14" deep with a diameter of 18". It is a 4-piece, though, not a 5-piece. But having one less rack tom does give you more space to mount a ride on the tom mount, which means you won't need a boom stand on...

    Contacting Pearl

Anyone have a reliable way to contact Pearl for Mimic support? The only thing I can find is a web-based form at www.pearl-electronics-support/contact-us/ but it keeps returning an error message when I hit submit, lol. So you could say that I need support with the support.

It's true that hot spots aren't just a center mount issue, but typically the center is the desired place to hit the drum (most of the time), so hot spots are most problematic with piezos that are mounted in the center versus the side.

And while I love the idea of positional sensing, I'm...

replied to Best Mesh Heads for Acoustic Use Only
I'll add another vote for drum-tec's Real Feel heads. They really do feel close to mylar, IMO.

I've also used the Remo SilentStrokes, which have the advantage of being cheap, widely available, & a little quieter than 2- or 3-ply heads, but they are also springier.

    I've...

  • I used to have a TD-17KVX and switched to a PDP Concept LTD 5-piece acoustic kit about 3 months back (with a 16" x 22" bass drum). It certainly takes up more room than the Roland e-kit, but both fit fine on the same 78" x 63" drum rug. I think the biggest increase in footprint came...

  • Thanks for the info.

Is the beta firmware available anywhere? I find it odd that there appears to be nothing official from the Mimic team in 12 months. It's also weird that new units are shipping with a November 2018 version, but the latest available on the website is from August 2018....

  • Anyone have a new fix for this? I'm getting interference on Aux In using a 1/4" to 1/8" TRS cable, whether through a Bluetooth receiver or plugged directly into my phone. I also had the November 2018 software preloaded, and installed the August 2018 software (as a couple of members suggested)....

Jman, yeah I discovered this shortly after posting. Quite easy versus pressed grommets. Clean install, too. Thanks....
