I took the 10" tom and PDX100 and viewed the waveforms. I'm using the Triggera InTrigg lug mounted. The PDX100 waveform took about 10 -15 mSec to stabilize (not to flat, but very low). The A2E 10" tom took about 30 mSec.

So I swapped heads. Interestingly enough there wasn't...

    To wrap this up...

I forgot to mention that I'm running just the left channel to a mixer and have my headphones plugged into the mixer. I had forgotten that unlike the Roland modules which will do a L+R mix to the left side mono channel, the aD5 only sends left sound to the left and right...

I think what Jman was suggesting was that you have single zone toms now but you have unused rim signals. The rim on a tom is also a piezo which makes it a great candidate to split off to a cymbal.

So instead of splitting a cymbal into 2 cymbals, split a tom into a tom and a cymbal. Then...

    Thanks Viperr and sascha.

I'll see what I can find to use as a foam ring. I also realized I have a 10" tom and a PDX100 pad. I think I can swap heads and see how the waveforms look.

I tested both my KD-9 and PDX-100 pads from the Roland kit I bought. The decays were around 10 ms.

Back on my A2E snare I tried pressing my hand on the head while striking it but the decay didn't change.

How would you recommend I try to dampen this head? You had mentioned...

Thanks for the reply. But I've been playing this setup with my TD-25 module for about a year. It's been triggering fine.

However, I will try redoing the trigger setup and not kick as hard....

That makes sense. Once I did the Trigger Setup Wizard I did exactly as you mention (not my first go around with the aD5 but that's another story) and level set everything sensitivity wise.

One of my main questions is that even with everything level set, the bass drum is really weak. So...

I'll look into that. May take some time to figure out what I need to get and get to it.

I'm not sure what you're asking. When I look at the Snare 12 O'Clock picture I see the strike occur at about 4.935 seconds and you can see the waveform die out around 5.5 seconds. Or are you...

ATV aD5 initial setup on A2E

Looking for some guidance on how to go about setting up trigger settings on the aD5 with my A2E kit. Let me start with my kit configuration.

Cymbals - all from the TD-25KV kit
    VH-11
    CY-12C x 2
    CY-13R

    Shell pack - Mapex Horizon
    10", 12",...

More data. I've attached 5 screenshots. Four of them are individual hits blown up (trigger is UfoDrums conical side trigger). I then switched out the UfoDrums trigger for the Triggera InTrigg which uses a cylinder style foam. The last attachment is several hits in the center of snare and a few at the...

Ok. That's a lot to digest so let me start by saying 2 things.

I didn't show the picture but the waveform at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions resemble the center waveform more than the 12 o'clock waveform. So its more than just being close to the rim.

    Secondly I'm using...

Connected my snare to the laptop through the mic port and collected some samples from Audacity. What you see in the screen shot is even strokes from the center of the snare gradually moving to 12 o'clock. The trigger is mounted to the lugs at the 6 o'clock position, so the strikes are moving away...

All right. Supposing I want to play scientist. I have Win10 and Audacity. Will that work for this experiment?

    What am I looking for?

My dad used to say - a poor man can only afford to buy the best because he can't afford to buy it twice. Every time I've tried to get something that barely meets my needs I've regretted it.

I don't know much about the lower end Rolands and almost nothing on the Yamahas but what I do know...

Took the head off. Checked the cone height. Looks good. Checked connections. Reseated the head and used the tuning trick of tapping near each lug. Even mesh heads produce a little resonance. Tightened each lug half a turn (star pattern). Did this 3 or 4 times. Checked by tapping after each round....

Hey JP. I'll double check all of that. I generally go by feel when I turn the lugs but I'll try to pay more attention. I'm pretty sure the cone height is good. But I'll check again. Probably remove the head and start over.

    Odd hotspot on A2E snare

I have a 14" A2E snare with Pintech Reaction mesh head and Ufodrums trigger . The trigger is mounted to the lugs at about 6 o'clock. I don't have their crossbar. The rim piezo is mounted to the shell at about 5:30 (so right next to the lugs holding the head trigger.)

    The head is pretty...

I've given this question some more thought and I have some more suggestions. Hopefully something here will help you get closer to what you want.

First of all, we're limited by the design of the Roland cymbal with an edge switch and the inherent physics - you need enough force to close...

I don't know if you know, but there is a switch along the edge and you have to tap hard enough to close that switch for the edge to be recognized. The piezo in the bow is what registers velocity and the module checks to see if the switch was activated to decide whether or not to play bow or edge sounds....
