Nice kit! It's insane how similar our layouts are, lol. I recently moved my SPD's to tom 1 and 2 but used to have them like yours. I add a rubber cymbal between my two main crashes when I play with my Latin Rock band, so it would be very similar!...

I agree completely. I'm also dying to try the Agean with a gen 16 DS pickup to see how it works. Since they seem to capture the crappy sound of the acoustic Gen's, in theory these should sound good.

I used a small Piezo trigger with double sided tape to test on the Gen's and was not happy....

Thanks for posting this. I wish they'd do one with all three using the Gen direct source pickups through a PA and recorded. The problem with this particular video is the Zildjian's are both much quieter. So you get more stick sound verse cymbal sound using mics. It was good to hear exactly how much...

Well check this out guys, awesome video discussing this. Sabian has come out with something that might just do the trick. He talks about it at the end of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc4R-ozZWWs

Here's the Sabian ones that might be a good compromise. Not sure how loud they...

Good points Tang, great point on the meter. Yeah that's what I mean is trying a gen pickup on an L80. I think the volume is similar so it should work the same.

Sabian and a few other companies are coming out with them too. So perhaps competition will improve the product in time.

Welcome Eddie! I was born in NJ and lived there for about 11 years. I gave up playing at 31 and picked it back up around 45 too, lol. I turned turned 50 and play in 2 cover bands and one original band now. So be careful or you'll end up on the road again, lol! Enjoy!...

Just to make sure you tried everything, did you plug the module into a computer and use their software to tweak? That was the first step for me as I was able to at least get close to the sound I wanted. Then the EQ helps to knock out that one high pitched ring and boost the low mids a little so they're...

I have not yet. I could see them sounding betting in some ways as they do not seem to have the high pitched overtones the normal ones seem to have. In store, they sound a little dead to me though, worth experimenting with however. One of mine is REALLY old and dead anyway, so I may grab a L80 crash...

Oh, on the set up of a homemade kit...I built mine out of 4" deep shells. They are thin and super light. I remove the cymbals and two cymbal stands from my rack to transport. The snare is on a separate stand since it's the TD50 digital. I built a lightweight cart that allows me to set the rack...

Gen 16's are like every other edrum product, imo. Sound like crap until you spend the right amount of time tweaking them to taste. And even after that, they won't be perfect, lol. I gladly take the thin sound over hitting rubber live. So long as there is a good sound guy, they sound fine in the mix....

  • We do a lot ourselves. We tracks for two reasons, one is we all play with multiple groups and most have full time jobs these days. That leads to playing with subs who might not be able to cover the same harmony parts. Or say a stand in lead singer with no practice prior to a gig, so there is no time...

  • I run my tracks off an iphone4 which I bought for 50 bucks on Ebay. There is a free app called Back Trax http://backtraxapp.com/ which is incredibly reliable. You can build play lists in it and easily move the order of the tracks, etc. I play with lots of different bands so it's nice to label the lists...

One thing to consider is it's not just the volume but obviously the frequency output as well. QSC K12's are really loud and clear, but they lack low end. I've yet to hear a 12" get the thump most of us would be happy with. Though I have done plenty of gigs with a single K12 combo and while not...

  • Wait, we still talking about drumming here or is this a Penthouse forum??? Just kidding. I've taken to solid black sketchers with memory foam. They work with anything other than shorts, which I rarely wear on stage. I kick hard so the memory foam is nice. But you'd likely hate the rubber sole. Those...

  • That's an excellent question. I have low level ringing but not all the time. I played acoustics at a festival with a shared kit last year, forgot my plugs and rang for two days. I don't have that issue after 4 sets using electronics and ears. It took me a little bit to get used to playing at a slightly...

  • I know a few guys who have the Strike Pro and love it. Both are old Metal guys from the '80's so playing electronics was not something they wanted to do. One gigs with it, one uses it for practice only. Seems like a good kit for the money. My only personal experience with Alesis is the DM5 and DM10...

Yup, agree with both of you on this. I sat in with a poka band when I was still playing acoustics, my current sounds would not have worked for that, lol. On changing, we don't like dead air, so we do medleys or I keep a beat going while the singer talks, then the next song starts, etc. So if my aux...
