  • Clever Introduction

    Hey gang,

I am that guy who was the sh*t in high school playing in the best bands. Then I became a hippie and played in jam bands in college. I can play it all, so we'd just rotate around swapping instruments, getting high and the music never stopped. Then one day while playing golf with the best guitar player in town, he says me, "every a**hole can play guitar in this town. If you can't sing you're useless." Soooo, I have been trying to learn to sing ever since then, with limited success. That's why we are all drummers, right?

Anyways… I NEVER thought I'd own an electronic drum set, but damn… they have come a long way since I stopped playing drums in college. Meanwhile, my acoustic set has died a slow death in my parents attic in the 1.5 decades since leaving for college. I still don't have the space for a big kit in my home. My neighbors would probably shoot me anyway (don't f*ck with lesbians!). So here I am… the proud new owner of a TD-15VS kit. I plan on asking the dumbest questions from time-to-time and getting flamed by kids with way too much time on their hands, so I apologize in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Taller than me ...err.... You!

Congratulations on your new kit! You may want to get the acoustic kit out of the attic an perform an A-to-E conversion! You just never know, when you need a backup e-kit....

          Happy Drumming!

Welcome! If you can get past his somewhat whacked personality, Ken Tamplin's got a great program on singing. My keyboard player bought his DVD course and it's really effective. It ain't cheap though! http://kentamplinvocalacademy.com/

Congrats on the new kit too! I took a 15 year hiatus myself, I was amazed how much of it came back, like I never stopped. I can't play quite as fast yet, but the rest came back right away. Have fun!
TD50 Digital Pack, TD30 and TD9 Modules, custom made pads, Gen16 crashes, and hats plus a few other things that I'm not sure what to do with or why they're still in my kit. Please explain to me what "good" singing is....? As long as it sounds good to YOU and came from within you...who cares?! Do you think Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, or Ronnie James Dio would win The Voice? Hell no but they're fantastic songwriters and musicians who did their own thing with no regrets!

Younger generations tend to have this mentality that you need to be a FAST and really prog/technical player to be considered "good". I say that's the biggest load of horse $hit I ever heard. Skill and speed mean NOTHING. I've heard bands who could play lightning fast and screaming solos but their songs were horrible IMO. Then on the other end you have bands who stick to rhythm guitar and simple beats but have wonderful melodies or meaningful lyrics. SInce I already used Tom Petty, I'll use him again....take ANY Tom Petty song....are the drum parts hard...are there huge drum solos using every cymbal ever made? No and no but yet the drums fit the songs perfectly. If you feel that you're weak in one area of music, make your other areas shine. Not everyone needs to have a golden voice, lightning fingers, or thunderous chops to make good music!!

The point is that music is DIVERSE. Don't put yourself down because you don't sound like "insert your favorite musician here". Define yourself and your own sound. Screw what everyone else thinks. Welcome to the forums. =)

                    Yep!
He is one, if not the richest drummer around! ....thanks to his singing! *ahem*

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some certain listening urge...

"What would you do if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me...?"
