  • Hello from Ireland..

    Hi all,
I'm new here and just want to say hello. My name is Ian, I'm Irish and living in County Clare. I've been drumming for over 25 years now. I have a lot of drums acoustic and electronic. My main acoustic kits are an Ayotte Custom wood hoop kit and a DW Collectors series. I use mostly Zildjian K's and A's and all my hardware is dw9000. I've been using a SPD20 for years now and I have just bought a TD-20 which I'm just getting to figure out now.
I do have some questions about it which I have just posted in the Technical Forum. If anyone could take a look and help me out I would be most grateful.
Anyway I just wanted to make myself known here, and say hello!

Hi Hampis. Yes I have been a professional drummer on and off for many years. These days I'm more semi-professional as I returned to college full time last year, although I still earn my living from playing drums.

Hi John B. Not a bother. If there's is anything I can help with just ask. Acoustic drums are my main thing. I'm just getting into triggering my dw's with the TD-20 and ddrum triggers. I'm using the PM-30 monitor as well. For smaller gigs I want extra volume so I'll use the PM-30 to do that. For the larger gigs I just want to have less work to do - there's so much time consumed by sound checking and eq-ing. By triggering I'll eliminate a lot of that, plus I can change the sound of the kit to suit the song. Tha's the plan anyway.

                Thanks for your kind words.
I mostly play rock music. I work with cover bands and original bands. The original bands are a little difficult to pigeon-hole. One of them is a kind of acoustic crossed with electronic. I don't have a myspace, but one of the lads I work with does. I'll find the link so you can have a listen. The covers bands I work with, one of them is a three piece guitar driven rock band, playing up to date rock stuff like Kings Of Leon but some old stuff too like The Who. Another covers band I play with has a female singer. We do stuff like Blondie, The Pretenders, Transvision Vamp, but new stuff like The Ting Tings and your one that sings 'I kissed a girl' can't think of her name. We also like to do punked up versions of girl band/boy band crap for a laugh, which goes down really well.
In the past I have played Country music, Ska and Reggae. Playing Ska and Reggae is my favourite. I just seem to have a flare for it, or so most other drummers tell me. I spent my young drumming life listening to The Police, The Beat and what not so I guess that's where it comes from.

Welcome aboard! Always good to have another seasoned, professional veteran around to remind me of how well I DON'T play the drums.

Looking forward to hearing all the great advice I'm sure you can share!

                      All the best.

Well, yes I do have years of experience - touring, recording etc, and I do have some nice gear, but it doesn't mean I'm any better than anyone else here! Thanks for the kind words though.
