  • Newbie needs hi-hat help

Hi... I taken up drumming on a full kit only relatively recently, When I was a kid I used to play in a pipe band, and after many years of messing about with guitar and Bass, decided to give drumming a try..... We have an acoustic kit at home, which my son uses, and I have cobbled an electric set from various 2nd hand sources which I use when I am working away (fits easily in the car and is quiet...). Thouroughly enjoying it, but wish I had done it years ago....

One thing that frustrates me about the TD3 is the Hi-hat (CY-5/FD-8), does any one know of a way of getting a more realistic performance without spending an arm and a leg on a TD12?

spend just an arm (or a leg) on a TD9. it has much better control than the 3 or 6 and can use a Vh11...
TD9+6v with Diamond Electronic pads, and cowbell.
    ATH-50m headphones, VEX packs
not to mention keyboards, guitars, basses, and cats

      Welcome to the forum.
Sadly the TD3 is remarkably limited in hi-hat functions. I'm afraid it's GAS for you.

I went from the TD-3 to a TD-12 module based kit. It's a quantum leap ahead....it IS a price jump....the Gibraltar rack is a step up as well. The larger size makes it less portable.

I liked the TD-3 but after playing on the TD-12 upgraded kit, it's so much better....

Saku is right, you could get a TD-9 module and upgrade your hi-hat....folks seem to like their TD-9s.

Don't know anything about the TD-9, but I upgraded from a TD-6V to a TD-12 and the difference in performance was almost startling. Incredible hihat performance. I picked up my TD-12 used for $750 (or was it $850...I can't remember right now...either way it was a good deal). Anyway, if you are willing to go used, you can pick up a TD-12 for a pretty good price on Ebay.

Thanks for the info chaps I guess I need to start saving up.....

As an aside does any one know a work around to increase the hi-hat foot volume, and yes I have rtfm about turning on with level/pan pressed, I can only adjust from nearly silent (10) to just about audible (15).. a forlorn hope i knoww...
