  • Hello from Kansas

Thank you for sharing your forum and knowledge with me.
I haven't even scratched the surface here and already have found lots of interesting things.
I have been pounding the drums since around the 6th grade, never got to where I wanted to be talent wise but have had fun along the way.

Played acoustic for most of that time but I purchased a Yamaha DTX2.0 around 10 - 15 years ago and thus began my love hate relationship with electronic drums.
Played that set in two bands over those years and about 2 years ago I purchased a used TD15K that had been upgraded with a VH11.
I also purchased a VEX kit for it about a year later which really made a pretty big difference in the sound. I no longer play in a band but had a reunion for one of the old band members birthday a few months ago and got to play live with it. These things are leaps and bounds better than the Yamaha kit I started with, it sounded pretty darn nice live.
The picture is from a jam I recently had with some of the people I have played with over the years, it was lots of fun.

Hey Mark, welcome to the group. I'm like the third-newest member at this point so my welcome probably doesn't mean much 8-)

I went to KU and lived in Lawrence like '85-'91 and played a lot, mostly reggae keys, in the Topeka-Lawrence-OP-KC scene. Were you doing anything around there at the time?

              Hi Frank

Lets see, I was in two different bands in that time frame if I remember correctly, the first was called Tailspin it lasted for a couple of years and then I was in a band called Machine Gun Kelley for about 9 years. We played mostly in Johnson County, although Tailspin did a little traveling in Kansas and Missouri.

I'm sure I've seen Machine Gun Kelley on some bar calenders! I didn't have wheels in college so only made it to JoCo when I myself had a gig... reggae bands Manna, Green Card, and Poverty Wanks. I grew up two blocks off 91st and Metcalf...

Small world Frank, I lived around 75th and Metcalf for awhile, so pretty close.
Sorry to say I don't remember hearing any reggae bands during that time they sound like fun bands though.
