  • Semi-Retired Guy Here

    Hello all,

I've decided to finally try to get a little more serious about my musical interests after retiring from the US Air Force last summer.

I bought my first Roland kit, a TD-6SW back in 2007, then upgraded to the TD-30KV in 2013. I'd never played acoustic drums, so these kits were my first exposure playing any kind of drums. The TD-30 was (and still is) overwhelming, but very fun to bang along to songs. I've been messing around on the guitar since school (since my Dad's been playing guitar semi-professionally for as long as I can remember). I have a couple electrics (including a Fender Strat) and an Ovation acoustic. Unfortunately, they've been in the closet for a number of years now. Quite a few years ago, I bought myself an electric piano (which itself sat in the closet for many of those years). It's set up in the living room now, so I occasionally complete a "teach yourself to play" lesson to try to justify spending the money on it. All I need is a bass and some vocal talent and I can become my own band. .

I've been reading these forums off and on (more off than on) since at least before buying my TD-30 and maybe as long as since buying my TD-6 (my memory is not the greatest), but never posted. Hopefully I can get out of my shell a little more and post some in the forums, and maybe work on getting good enough to post some videos (pretty unlikely, but you never know).

Hi Brian. Welcome to the fold mate. It dont matter what you play as long as you enjoy. Im fully retired and from the other side of the pond and can remember back in the 60s 70s going to the US Airbase at Ruislip to play and see other bands. Always a great night out. You guys new how to party.

Remember, it's only about the fun we have banging on things! So, enjoy!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your service. We'd like to see some pictures of your kit and your axes. I've been taking private lessons for about a year now and it has really helped me after several years of learning from websites and DVDs. I recommend it if you can afford it..

Thank you all for the welcome. Please forgive the quality of the pictures, they are from my phone. I haven't had my guitars out for almost a year now, so they need some love (cleaning, new strings).

Please also forgive the lack of more pics of the drums, any other angle reveals too much clutter in the room. .

Once I got my audio interface hooked up so I can play along to more songs than what I had on a USB stick, I've realized I need to get to recording videos. I'm having fun, but it's got to be funny to watch just how uncoordinated I am (hitting my hands with my sticks while trying to grab cymbals, trying to actually use both feet on my dual kick pedals, etc.). If nothing else, they would be fun to look back on to see how much I've improved over time (assuming I actually stay serious and put in the work between fun sessions).

              Brian

Do Fender still make the Precision Bass. My favorite bass guitar, especially when played through a Marshall valve amp.
