I've been completely inspired by Tommy_D's thread here:
http://vdrums.com/forum/showthread.p...ommy_D-s-drums
In which he meticulously described the arrival and growth of his new kit. With that in mind, I hope to do the same in this thread. I appreciate all of the help I've received from the fine folks in this forum over the past few years, and especially in the past couple of weeks as I started to seriously investigate getting a new kit. A special shout out to Taphabit as well.
I already have a TD9-KX2 with an added Yamaha cymbal for my crash 2. I've also mounted a modified RMP-5 to use as a 2nd floor tom. Today I've ordered a TD-30KV. I plan to merge them together into a TD-39KVX2, or whatever you might call it. :-)
Here's what I've ordered:
TD-30KV, swapped out the PD-128s for a rack mountable PD-128.
2 36 inch gibraltar straight tubes (to use as the front two uprights, instead of the short roland tubes)
1 36 inch gibraltar curved tube (to use as the front horizontal bar, instead of the short roland tube)
1 30 inch gibraltar straight tube (to use as the snare mount, likely to be cut down)
1 DW 90 degree clamp to mount the snare mount tube to the upright.
A bunch of roland 15', 10' and 5' cables (which, it turns out were backordered, and will have to be credited back to me)
4 cable splitters (to split my aux 1 thru 4)
1 set of DW 9000 double pedals
1 DW 9000 two leg hi hat stand
1 remo double patch for the kick
Here's the plan. We'll see how it plays out.
I want to use the 10" snare from the TD9 kit with the 2 10" toms from the KV across the front on the tube (using the clamps from the TD9 kit, for now), the two 12" toms from the KV will stay on the right bar. Two of the PD85s from the TD9 will be mounted above the three front rack toms using the mounts in the tops of the front two verticals. That leaves another PD85 to use as another snare(?) to the left of my hi hat, or maybe as an accent pad somewhere else. The 2nd 12" floor tom (tom 5) and all of the PD85s will likely be used as single trigger only via the drum splitters so that I can run all of my existing cymbals from the TD9 on the new kit as well. Mounting all of those cymbals is going to be interesting with the front tube already heavily used...we'll see how it goes. I also like to mount the monitors from the PM-30 on the rack as well...but they may end up on the left and right tubes.
Most of this stuff is still about a week out due to shipping, but I'll upload some pics of the TD-9 as it sits now so you can all watch the transformation. Here's hoping it goes as planned!
(Oh, for now I have no plans to use the TD-9 as a second module, but it's certainly a consideration.) The VH-11 will almost certainly be for sale, unless I can't stand the clop-clop of the VH-13. I may use the KD-9 kick as an accent pad to the left of my hi hat pedal as well. (might need another splitter!)
