  • About to do my first gig with SPDs pads in a spin class!!!

So yeah, I just had my second practice with my spin instructor friend. I'm going to be jamming along with the music playing in the spin class as well as adding some inspirational cues with voice samples and such. This is the wildest gig I've done to date. A spin class!!! It should be a hoot, it's just me and my SPDS pads as well as a kd8 kick trigger, the spin instructor and a bunch of people on bikes looking right at me. LOL! The theme will be hip hop and r and b tunes. I'll be playing to songs like Green Light- John Legend, I'm Looking for You - Kirk Franklin and Prayer for the Dying -Seal. This is going to be fun because I've never done any kind of R&B gig. I've always loved R&B but never had the chance to explore it.

Right now I have a generic kit set up. I have two SPDS pads with a china, splash and crash on the top triggers of each pad. The left top three pads have voice samples, the Yeahhh, Come on and the scratch sound. The bottom three pads have a ride a hit hat and a snare. On the right, the top three pads have descending toms, the bottom three pads have a snare a crotale and a floor tom. I may have to put together an R&B kit so I blend with the song mixes. We'll see. More later...

Well, it certainly does sound different. Be careful, though. You could kill them all with a drum solo!

Best of luck and have fun!

Things went well. It was fun. A totally different kind of venue. Since I've taken the class myself and I know most of the people, it was a shared experience. I could have played more songs but I will work on that next time. This has been a good way to explore my trigger pads. For my next time around, I'm going to sample my voice and have a two pad set up of strictly voice sounds and sound effects to get the crowd going when I take a break. Also, I'm going to construct some custom R&B kits that blend with modern tracks. I want the drum section to be robust and come alive with sounds that really cut through the mix and sound contemporary!.

That's not a bad idea. Also, zone 3, zone 2, zone four! Full turn up. Take it down! Outta your seats on 3, 2, 1! Woooooo!
