  • TD-20 Sound Man Compliment

    Hey All,

Thought I would share a recent compliment I got on my drum sound.

I use a TD-20. I also got some of the packages from V Expressions Limited. Mainly use one of their Sonor kits setup w/ a few minor tweaks.

Anyway, back in June we were playing the Port O' Call in NC's OBX. I was doing my drum check for the sound guy when he interrupts the process to tell me,
"Man I've heard a few e-kits in my time, but yours is the best drum sound I have ever heard out of one of those contraptions."

This was a reunion show in which the original drummer joins us with an acoustic kit and we do double drums ala Allman Brothers/ Grateful Dead. And due to channel constraints, I was just sending him everything through one channel. This sound guy was the first one who ever had my drums as loud and as powerful as the acoustic kit on stage.

    I love my TD-20!!!

vdrums.com should organise an award - the Soundman of the Year Award. Nice little shield or something or other.

Vdrum members nominate their favourite soundman and explain why, at the end of the year vdrum members vote for who they think is the most deserving soundman...

GAS Percussion are happy to sponsor it by fashioning up an award at the model makers! Vdrums.com logo supported above a block of wood - al la Oscars.

Hmmm, <biting my tongue - amazing how many naughty jokes pop into one's mind>.

SP, of course female engineers can be nominated, all I'm saying is that they can't be allowed to win!! LOL

OK OK, kidding, yep, open to all 3rd party sound engineers regardless of sex.

Hell yes! The female engineer at my gig last night was awesome. She was really pleased I turned up with my TD-9, couldn't have been more helpful with the DI boxes, made sure my kit sounded AWESOME through FOH and even provided an extra monitor so I could really hear myself properly.

She was by far the best, most helpful sound engineer I have ever worked at a gig with. So yes, female engineers for the WIN
TD9KX w/KD-120 kick, VH-11 HH, PD-125 snare, CY-8 crash, Gibralter double pedal

              Women Engineers

Now that I think about it. I've experienced just as many (if not more) quality female sound engineers as I have male. My wife, who is the lead singer & rhythm guitarist for our band, gets lots of requests for sound work.

That is one thing I really appreciate about the recent Democratic primary race between Hillary & Obama. It made me realize that the ole US has for decades given lip service to true equality for women and other races (wait, are we not all part of the Human Race?).

It's made me aware of how we guys blindly assume that when someone speaks of a sound person, or a drummer, or a welder, whatever...we assume they are speaking about a male. When I think we can all admit that there are just as many accomplished females in these fields. I know I've made that mistake.

So I'm thankful to be called out for this, for it allows me to progress in my own evolution, as well as contribute to the evolution of our race.

OK...soap box is put away...sorry about that.

We now return you to regularly scheduled v-drum discussion.

This is probably quite true to say unfortunately - but I wonder how much of it is deliberate and how much is just by default. Either which way, the original posting was quite certain it was a man!

Some interesting conversation here guys. While it is great to see such discussion, I do want to make it known that I am certainly not a feminist by any stretch of the imagination. Obviously I support equality for everyone but I think many so called 'victims' take things way too far the other way and just end up doing damage to the cause.

At the end of the day, the best way to promote equal opportunity is to just get out and get known. I have found that in this day and age, as a woman, I get just as much work and respect as any other person, male or female, as long as I produce quality results.
In my observation, gone are the days when the majority are unaware or ignorant to the fact that women are just as capable as men in many traditionally male only fields. It is now more up to the attitude and determination of the individual to create opportunities. There are so many doors to walk through in life and they no longer have a 'men only' badge on them!!

I edited SPs comments, but I am in total agreement.

TNT, no co-ed showers over there? I thought they would start in Venice!
