  • Roland and Mimic Spoil me.

First let me say I'm NOT trying to offend anyone or acoustic playing drummers. This is just my 2 cents and opinion about Playing Acoustic drums after playing Digital for 4 srtaight years.

The last 6 gigs I've played have been in the last 2 weeks. All of them except one has been outside at Music festival. All of the outside gigs the sound crew DIDN'T want digital drums. ONLY acoustic kits. Fair enough. I had no choice but to play their backline drums. (Remember this is just my humble opinion) . My Roland KV kit with Mimic and TD-30 modules sound so much better than acoustic drums and are so much easier to play. With acoustics the lower the toms/floors the less the bounce obviously. Makes it a little tougher to do rolls. And then theres the tuning. Most of these acoustic kits didn't sound very good and need. So I'm spending a half hour tuning drums with old heads. Let me say at this point. until 3 months ago, I had a Very nice DW Performance series ki that I rarely played. It sounded good but not a good option for playng clubs, weddings or Casino's. How nice to have a quiet stage. Good for the ears. Plus i have learned how to play lighter with digital. Any. back to my story.

The Headliner drummer for the last show I played this weekend in Navarre FL.. Well? His drums were.....Not nice. Old, rusty, beat up yamaha's. His cymbals? Old , didn't look like they had ever been cleaned. The sound of them? Average at best. I guess what i'm getting at is, playing digital drums is so much easier, Looks better, sounds better and I don't have to work hard to play them unlike acoustics.

Thank you Roland and Mimic for making my playing sound better and feel better. Y'all have spoiled me and I like it. Here's my Digital kit an the kit from this weekend. The Cymbals are mine. Paiste Signature series ans Zildjian A custom.

I tend to play a lot of small pubs and places. Sometimes the pa is good sometimes not. I just take along my own acoustic kit and set up in about 10 mins. At least I know I can get a sound out of them seriously though I canít be bothered carrying around with me monitors and stuff and relying on front of house to get it right. In the places I play you can still always hear me.

I would like like to play my ekit at church but just no one good enough on the pa where I go. Itís all I use at home though with SD3 with my td30 and I just love it.

so when I have my own drum tec Iíll go for it live

Roland TD30 module on TD20 kit SD3 with various kits. Pearl Masters Kit, Yamaha 9000RC original natural wood finish. Cymbals from Zildgian Pasite and Sabian. Loads of percussion bits. Cubase and Wavelab always current versions.
