Hello anyone have any pointers. Im doing a big show with 10 bands (Rockers against Bullying)..They are going to backline instruments. Really want to use my td20 kit live i'm also using a vex kit that sounds awesome.Anybody with live experience in an outdoor live show and anything you guys could share will be greatly appreciated thanks Donny

Hi, I did one of these last year. I setup my kit at the side of the stage ready to go straight on. Also find out what leads they will be using. My gig was xlr DI box which was a pain since I didnt have any.lol. To make it simple and quicker maybe just do a left and right out so only two leads to sort out.A2E Natal Arcadia jazz, 18 kick,pd85 high tom,12 floor and 14 dual zone snare, triggered by 2box trigit, powered by td6v and tm2 layered via midi. cy8, cy12,vh10 cymbals.

I always carry spares of pretty much everything. Lots of extra cables (from pads cable to power cable), cymbal nuts, drum keys, ...
Arrive early. Try to set up your kit as soon as possible. Don't wait until you are rushed to do everything and you might miss a thing and start going nuts. It's all about staying cool before the show.
What sounds good in your headphones at home will probably not translate very well for an outdoor gig. Be ready to make some changes quickly.

Okay, here's my 2 cents.
1. Perceval's advice is +1
2. Find out AHEAD of time what exactly you are responsible for and what the rest of the band is responsible for. You don't want to be standing around at the gig thinking you have block "x" for your time to set up when another bandmate announces they were planning on using YOU for all their work, then you run out of time to set up YOUR kit and your stuff. Division of labor planning is a must. It's even worse when said bandmate doesn't even announce they were planning on using you, they stand around like idiots and magically think everything will be done, then you will be standing there, looking at your watch, wondering how they are gonna get everything done in the next 20 minutes when you see NO ONE caring, NO ONE panicking, NO ONE lifting a finger to make sure anything is getting done. That's when you will be forced to step in, to help out, to make sure YOUR gig goes well, and then YOUR TIME gets eaten up. I am spending a lot of time and dramatics on this because this is the #1 killer for me at every flippin flarkin flirkin gig I have ever done. It's THAT serious.
3. Find out what kind of STAGE MONITORING they will be using for your kit, if any at all. You may need to provide your own. Sure, your kit might thump out FOH, but for your bandmates, on a stage that big, they WILL have trouble hearing and feeling your e-kit, and using the vocal monitors for your e kit is sub par.
4. HAVE FUN!
5. Have any proprietary cables and doo-dads you might need for YOUR kit on hand. Nothing worse than needing a stereo cable for drums and everyone only has mono.
6. If you need a DI box, get one NOW. I have a $20 Behringer one that is powered by a 9V battery and works flawlessly.
7. Not sure of the power source or setup at the gig location, so have a ground lift plug or Hum X ready to keep your module quiet if it hums.
8. Have fun!
9. Have enough instrument or xlr cables ready to plug your kit into wherever it needs to be.
10. DO A SOUND CHECK OUT FOH if you can. Set your module to just play an internal tune and go out front and listen to make sure your kit, your VEX, sounds the way you need it.

Great advice guys!!! I i do have a monitor in my studio for practice..Its a simmons da200s...That sounds pretty good.I come out left and right out of the TD20 into the monitor then low impedence into my mixer. So I was thinking that would work fine into the snake. I'm sure I'll get a lot of looks at the show..lol...but really not worried about that..lol ..Any advice on any vex kits to use right now I use the modcomp number 50. Also any advice on what to back off of at an outdoor show. Reverb,ambience,multi effects parameters? This is actually the first time out for me in 6 years.
