  • MIDI Signal delay?

    Hi Folks,
Wondering if anyone has run across this and what you did to fix it...
I seem to be experiencing a delay of some sort between when the kick drum is hit ans when it shows up in MIDI. On a recent recording, I noticed that ALL the kick drum notes in Sonar were late by a little bit - enough to hear the difference. At first I just thought it was me and that I suck at drums - because I do. I've only been playing drums for a couple of months (play keyboards for 40+ years). Then I realized all the kick notes were off. So I selected them all in Sonar and scooted them over to be a tiny bit earlier and they all work (more or less). So it seems to me I can't consistently be the same amount late for EVERY note. Makes me think there's some sort of delay happening.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts / comments / advice

I've got a TD30KV connected via MIDI to a MOTU MIDI express XT connected to a Windows computer via USB. Haven't seen this problem with any of the the Keyboards. One thing I do notice is when I connect the Midi out from the TD30 module, it's constantly sending output to all the other channels. I've found only a couple of MIDI settings on teh TD30 that should/might affect this and neither changes anything.

    Best,
    Chris

    Chris,

You might want to try using the TD30's USB computer connection instead of it's MIDI connection (to avoid the latency likely added by the MOTU).

What Jerry said...try bypassing the MOTU to isolate the issue.

I've recorded with the USB midi from my TD30 I've never had a latency issue with midi.

I've also recorded (both audio and midi) from the TD30 via a roland studio capture (interface) and then into a computer via USB with no noticeable latency issues.

The midi connection via the motu will. I suspect, add latency. As above recommendations, try it via usb, cause it might be sonar adding the latency, as I find the case is with cubase.

Unless you are using Pro Tools (instead of another DAW), you should be able to get full (bi-directional) audio and MIDI directly over the TD's USB B connector (with the necessary Roland driver). See - http://protools.ideascale.com/a/dtd/...rt/173973-3779 for details.
