  • Proper set up for recording

I am in the process of setting up my home recording studio and don't quite understand all of the nuances of midi recording and sequencing. At the present time I am running a PIII 900mhz computer using Cubase VST and an Echo Layla to sequence drums and keyboards from a Yamaha SO3. I have just purchased a TD8 along with a Hart Dynamics giga pro kit and would like to hook it into the system to allow me to record the drums via midi while still using the keyboards via midi for piano and synth sounds. Do I chain the SO3 and TD8 together into the Layla or do use some kind of midi merge box to keep the signals separate?
I hope I explained this right.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks, Brock

Why not just assign them to differentchannels, like one on 9 and one on 10?

Or are you worried about delays if the keyboard part is busy and is using a good deal of bandwidth?

Do you have a sound card in the computer with a joystick port? If so, use that for another midi i/o, whether or not you're using the sound card..
