  • Any Cakewalk Users??? Help!

Just purchased Cakewalk last night and got everything installed. It seems to work, but when I record something it sounds like crap - tinny 'fake' sounding. I'm VERY new to edrums and Midi and could really use some help!

    Thanks. BTW I have a Roland V-Session w/expanded TD-10.

Thanks for the reply Chris. I'm at work right now, so I'll need to verify the info and get back to you. What I can tell you right now, is that Cakewalk is configured 'right out of the box'. Other than telling it which port on my midisport 2x2 adapter to use I haven't really configured anything else. My V-Session is expanded with the TDW-1, but other than that I haven't really changed anything other than tweaking the drum and cymbal sounds. I Cakewalk I created a new project using the 'session drummer' settings. I 'think' you may be right, that I'm just using general midi settings, but I guess I'm not really sure what I need to configure to change that!

As you can see I am VERY new to edrums and midi ... :<

    'appreciate your help.

Whooooa... I think I see the direction you're going (see the lightbulb?). I have a Midisport 2x2 adapter, which has 2 midi in and 2 midi out ports, along with a usb connector. I have drums going into input 1, then it's connected to my laptop via the usb. I recorded a brief session and then played it back through my laptop's speakers - that's where it sounded like crap. Was I being naive in thinking I could just record something to the pc, and maybe burn it cd as an MP3 and then share it??

Soooo, between Cakewalk and the midi adapter - I blew $150 that I didn't need to spend. Just goes to show, I should have posted the question before I spent the money! All I wanted was to record the drums, burn them to CD and send them to a friend of mine. I guess all I needed to do was tape the drums directly from the speakers I have hooked up. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

I appreciate your help, and patience.

Yeah, I know, I'm sure you're right - I was just feeling really cranky that day! I need to spend more time (a lot of time, I guess) with this setup and really learn it. Coming from acoustics it's a huge change.

Thanks again, Chris. I really appreciate your guidance.
