Ended up ordering a presonus quantum thunderbolt 3 interface. I'll be able to compare latency over usb (Roland UM-ONE), FireWire(motu), and TB3 (presonus)

Fyi on the UM-ONE: the Mac security settings were preventing the drivers from starting. Once that was enabled, I was able to fire up SD3 in stand-alone mode.

The Motu is still usable as an input only device.

Well, not sure how scientifically accurate these tests were, but here's my "latency comparison" between the Presonus Quantum 2626, Motu 8Pre, and Roland UM One midi cable. Not sure why some of these readings were the same across all 3 platforms: (buffer latency running SD3 standalone) Maybe I botched something.
