  • FS soon in Australia - TD6-KWS kit

    Hi All,

To anyone in Australia who's interested I will soon be selling my TD-6KWS kit (complete).

All in immaculate condition - only about 7 months old and never been taken out of my home studio.

    Includes MDS-6 curved rack in gunmetal grey, 3 x PD-8s, 2 x CY-8s, 1 x PD-X, PD-5 HH, FD-8 pedal, KD-8 kick, TD-6V module with VEX 50 Masters (in RH and LH configs).

I'm thinking it's worth about $1,800 looking at the current market.

    Hey Hercules,

Can you swing me a PM when you decide to sell? I am interested in seeing some pics and maybe taking it off your hands. Get back to me when you have decided on a price and sale date.

Hope we can help each other out

    Cheers mate

    Cam

You mean you're not keeping it and adding it to your TD20?

        Hi Cam,

Thanks for the interest - I'll let you know in about a week - the last bits for my TD-20 are still in transit and I want to get it setup before I move the 6V on.

        Hi SP,

I understand where you're coming from - I am very tempted to keep the 6V kit to use as a gigging kit (in case I ever bite the bullet and play with a band again.....) as it's really light and portable plus I have the sounds nicely sorted now I've been playing it for 7 months.

But I have an SPD-20 and SPD-S also (so there's no shortage of pads and sounds and spare ports to use with the TD-20)......so I feel it's a bit indulgent to keep 2 full kits.....and I could use the SPD-20 with the KD-7 and FD-8 as an ultra-portable kit......decisions decisions......it's always hard to sell something you like.....

Fair call Hercules. One thing you will HAVE to get though for your TD20 is Superior Drummer 2. Seriously, it is AWESOME and works really well with Protools.

            Hi SP,

I've been reading all the forum threads about Superior, BFD, Toontracks etc and whilst they sound good I haven't heard enough yet to make me decide to go with one of them - can you add any more details about the sound quality from an engineer's perspective?...overtones? subtlety of harmonics? adjustability etc etc

I plan to have a good play with the TD-20 over the next couple of weeks and see what I think first - I'm already very impressed with the depth and sustain you can get from the toms - but I am still very impressed with what I can get from the (simple little) TD-6V using a few sprinkles of audio engineer magic (you know the suble tweaks we can add....).

Look forward to any more insight you can add.

Hmmm.... where do I start?!! lol

The thing that was immediately obvious to me was that these are real kits mic'd in very good rooms with great mics and quality engineering. There's no denying the image around these sounds. The stereo field is deep and wide, but most importantly, it is a REAL image, not a modelled one. There's just no substitute for that.
The kit pieces themselves are awesome. You can hear the tiny subtleties of each drum. Things like subtle overtones on skins, resonances of shells, individual snare strainer pieces, the sound of wood hitting metal on rim clicks and the resulting resonances, etc etc...
Then there's the control you have over ambience. There's overheads, close, mid and far room mics in stereo, a mono room mic and the overdriven bullet mic, all totally adjustable just as you would on any acoustic studio session. I can work like an engineer instead of a programmer on these sounds and everything can be routed individually to Protools channels and automated / processed from there if need be.
The bleed from each instrument into every mic is totally controllable and you can do anything you could in a studio and many things that are traditionally impossible. For example, you can pull the kick drum out of the overheads without using eq and put more of it in the far room mics, or you can have a completely different kit mix in the far room mics compared to the overheads. The phase can be reversed on the mics or even the bleed signals!
You can even control the amount of bleed from each instrument into each mic without using gates.......
......and those room mics!!!.... damn!!! They sound WONDERFUL. No need at all for any reverb plugins. That would just spoil this awesome room sound.

Do you think I am enjoying this?!!!

Thanks SP - I really think you are enjoying this.

Makes me wish I didn't have a "day job" so I could get more involved......unfortunately the house, the pizza, the red wine, the deckchair and palm tree (in my dreams....) all cost more than the drumming lifestyle can provide......

but I will be looking more at this gear in the near future.

I'll buy you a deckchair and some land with a palm tree when I complete my first world tour

In the meantime, if you haven't already heard it, I have created a short demo of S2 which you can Download HERE if you're interested.
