  • Would anyone care to see my DIY builds?

The only reason I ask the question is because nothing I did for my Roland A2E build is truly revolutionary. Its mostly a hodge-podge of other people's builds that have already been well documented on the site. Its mostly a repeat of what we already have here.

The new A2E build is even simpler as I am just using stock, off the shelf parts and putting them together. Really basic stuff that anyone can do.

Yeah, these are DIY, but I'm not re-inventing anything or trying to make a new way of doing things. They could be separate threads, or I could just throw them in to my Kit thread where it gets a bit lost in the shuffle, but at least its all organized in one place.

Anyone care to see my builds in their own DIY posts?
I think my work is done here.

Yep. Even though you may not have "reinvented" anything...you could very well have details in your builds such as certain materials or shortcuts...that may be of value. Please post detailed walk-through with pics if possible. Thanks.

Yeah Tommy, I saw you did a nice clean Drop in Pan build with trim pots in the pans. If it isn't too much problem it would be great to add that to the DIY Drop in Pan sticky. I know when Chromeboy and I first collaborated in that thread, we offered up the build with the basic idea and a few add-ons/variations, but it is great to see how that idea has been added to and customized..... used for various brand kits, modules, etc .... great to see!

Don't knock yourself out, I know you are busy with the new pads and the new pad (pad, that's what we called our dwelling in the 1970's) but if you get time in the future that'd be great. J

Curious, do these drop in pan triggers or more specifically, do all drop in pan triggers have positional sensing? I would think so, but not sure

Yes, the Drop in Pan build was more or less a response to two things, Roland's PD basket type pads ..... and the quick ability to convert an acoustic drum to an Edrum by dropping in a pan and changing to a mesh head .... positional sensing works well when using the center mount style, and as long as the piezos are wired correctly.

Also, you need a module that supports positional sensing. But that should go without saying.

Okay, well I will try to post up something. The Roland Kit will probably be disassembled shortly as the big move is coming up. Perhaps before it all gets packed away I can snap some shots and at least have documentation of the build so I can post it up here.

The 2Box build is going to be laughably simple. I'm almost embarrassed to call it DIY. At least I am spending a little bit of time on making the shells pretty. Everything else is store bought.
I think my work is done here.

Frankly though...that's one thing that makes DIY for the 2Box so appealing...it's laughably simple...even if you build from scratch. Thus you get superior sound quality...excellent playability....and custom pads of your choice for a laughably inexpensive price....if that's all your budget allows. Of course when it come to DIY...the sky's the limit....if the sky is in the budget that is.

If you have already got dedicated threads for each of your builds, putting all your finished pics in one thread would be good. That way we can see all your masterpieces in ine place.

I would love to see them. I have read your entire set of links since I got my TD30 and they have been very helpful including using some of your kits in my module. Your a super contributor!

FWIW, I love build threads. I'd love to see you discuss the ins and outs of each of your builds with some nice pics. You have an eye for detail and even a (laughably) simple build might be an inspiration to others. I'd suggest giving each kit it's own build thread and placing links in your signature or your popular Tommy_D's Drum thread.

Okay, I have started a thread for my Roland build. The 2Box build will come a bit later.
