Hart Epedal II/Smartrigger Hi-Hats/Cymbals/Roland TD-8 Questions

HI Royce,
It's been a while since I tested the Hart stuff, but firstly, you don't need the adapter cable because you don't have fully variable HH control on the TD-8.
As for the cables, I would use stereo on everything. On the ride, the module only supports a single stereo input (from memory), so just use the bow/edge connector (stereo).
Hope that helps.

Thanks Allan!
So it looks like I can't use the 3-zone Smartrigger ride with the TD-8.
When I got all this stuff back in 2007, I had a TD-20, but health issues forced me to sell it and put the kit in storage for quite a while, and I only just got the TD-8 a while back, and between the time factor, and the differences between the TD-8 and TD-20, I'm completely at a loss as to how to hook this all up. I also forgot to mention that I'm playing an acoustic kit modified by Pintech.

Hi Royce,
AS Alan said, it is good practice just to use stereo cables for everything. Here's what I know and don't-know...
- 1. Should the Smartrigger CY-12HH2 12 in. Hi-Hat Cymbals be using a stereo or mono cable?
As far as I'm aware the ST HH is a dual-zone pad so you will need a stereo cable to access both zones. If you use a mono, you'll only get the pad to respond as a mono pad ('bow' only, no separate edge trigger).
- 2. Should the Hart Dynamics EPEDAL II Hi-Hat control be using a stereo or mono cable?
Doesn't matter.
- 3. Am I supposed to be using the rubber cup on the Hart HH Stand along with my Smartrigger bottom Hi-Hat cymbal?
No, the cup IS the bottom cymbal for the Hart hihat pad setup. With the ST, the bottom cymbal does what the Hart cup does, which is simply give the required height above the mounting platform of the hihat stand.
- 4. I also have one Smartrigger CY-13CR2 13 in. Crash Cymbal, and one Smartrigger CY-16RC3 16 in. 3-Zone Ride/Crash Cymbal, and again I don't know if both jacks on each cymbal are supposed to be stereo or mono.
I think the crash should just have one jack? In which case it's the same scenario - stereo cable will give you access to bow/edge/choke, mono cable will just give you access to bow. For the ride, it's a complex setup, I'd approach Marty from Smartrigger for assistance. There should be a contact form or info on the ST website, but Marty is also member iOTrap here.
- 5. How would you hook this all up in regards to the TD-8 trigger inputs?
HHcontrol out to HHcontrol in; HHpad out to HHpad in; CrashPad out to Crash1in or Crash2in; Ride - ask Smartrigger,
There IS a way to bluff the module into giving you a 3-zone ride, but you need to sacrifice an additional input.
- I noticed from reading some of the other posts here, that the Hart HH Stand comes with some kind of adaptor cable. I didn't get one with mine, but I bought it in 2007 from Drumbalaya, so, I'm not sure what I can do about that.
You don't need it. The adapter simply contains an additional resistor that changes the resistance range from what the Roland FD-pedals and VH11 use, to the range that the VH12 and VH13 use. You only need the adapter if you have a TD12/20/30 AND you want to use the VH performance settings.
Hope this helps...

Thank you so much flurbs, those answers and the format you used, were EXACTLY what I was hoping for.
We're all really fortunate to be living in a time where you can go on an internet forum an get answers for questions you have from people with more experience than you. I know I'm stating the obvious, but I'm just thankful for the help I received.
Thank You Allan and flurbs, and thank you to Vdrums.com for being here.
