  • The metal hook thing on top of the TD-9...

I'm sure you've all seen it. The TD-9 has this weird metallic hook thing on top of it, around the USB memory key slot:

Side view, can be seen on the right hand side:

I've had mine for 3 years and I've always wondered exactly what this is supposed to be used for. There's no mention of it in the manual. My best guess so far has been that it's there as a way to make a USB stick harder to bump out of the slot, but that seems a bit of a stretch, considering it's unlikely a USB stick will get bumped in that position anyway.

Does anyone know what this thing is and what it's supposed to be used for?

When the td9 first came out, there was discussion about this. I think we finally decided that you could rewire the td9 to be used as a taser, and those were the eletrodes
TD9+6v with Diamond Electronic pads, and cowbell.
    ATH-50m headphones, VEX packs
not to mention keyboards, guitars, basses, and cats

Your best guess is the correct one. It's basically a guard rail for an inserted USB memory stick.

Well... Christmas time is coming up. I'm sure once you have your christmas tree, you will know what the hook is for....

I use it to hang from the curtain rod when drumming in the shower.
