  • Newbie Into E-Drumming

After 7 years of my Pearl Exports(purchased in 1983) being in storage, I finally pulled them out and began playing again 2 years ago. I discovered the Vdrums site about 1 year ago and have been contemplating the purchase of E-Drums ever since. Well, after new baby arrival, landscape projects and kitchen re-model I have finally got the budget for purchase of a new e-kit. I had originally planned to convert my pearls to electronics by use of triggers, e-cymbals and a TD-10, but after running the numbers It was not much more money to go all electronic. After much debating and reading the various posts the last six months, I have decided to go with the following:

Hart Pro set in Piano Black
    E-Cymbals II
    TD-10 Expanded

I will be attaching the set to a Gibraltar curved rack that I currently use with my acoustic set. I already have a rack with BBE 482, DOD430 EQ, and an EV Stereo 8 channel Mixer. I currently use an EV SXA100 active speaker for monitoring. I Plan to place my order in April.

I would like to thank all of you for the information posted that has helped me make my decision on the purchase. CJude, Grravee, Szvook, Ranman,Crazstix & Gingerbaker, thanks especially for the great posts and information.

One question at this point. I have read the posts on the TMC-6 but could not find the answer. If you have the TD10, and purchase the TMC-6, for extra inputs, do you need anything else equipment wise or does the TMC-6 plug directly into the TD10 using the available sounds?

Once again, thanks and I look forward to future discussions and venting when I become an official e-drum user.

    Welcome to the boards!!

All you'll need to use the TMC6 with the TD10 is a MIDI cable. The TMC6 will trigger any sound in the TD10, and the manual will explain how to accomplish that (in short: you assign MIDI note numbers to pad inputs on the TMC6, when it see's a pad hit it sends the assigned MIDI note number to the TD10, in the TD10 you've assigned a sound to that MIDI note number and that's the sound the TD10 will play. )

Now I have a question for you: What are you going to do with the rack that comes with your Hart kit?
    My website...
    VCustom kit,
    TD8 + Aphex Impulse,
    HDI Cymbals.

Safe Drummer you sound just like someone I know...ME

I also had a candy apple red 1983 Pearl Export 7 piece set before I decided to go electronic. I know the official color name is not candy apple red, but that's what it looked like to me. I sold my set plus a boat load of Zildjian cymbals for $1200. Not bad huh? I still consider Pearl to be a leader in acoustic drums.

Welcome, stay awhile, have some coffee, talk to me after you've decided to go hybrid, which is what I'm about to do.

Thanks for the info on the TMC6 ranman. I will proabably be purchasing the HartPro components separately so I will not have the Hart rack. Hey Brufordwannabe my Pearl set is a 7 piece in Jet Black, still sounds great. I use Evans hydraulic heads on the Toms.
