These are some rough pics of my DIY kit. Except for 3 PD7's, all else are home made. The kit actually has more cymbals than pictured, but I was wedged between a cigarette machine and Golden Tee 4 and had to strip down the kit. I will post some better pics soon as the set is set up again. Plays great and the pads are bigger than my Club kit.

Kit looks good...
I would love to have an old acoustic kit fall into my lap! I would do some cutting and voila! Mock V's!
I purchased the pipe for my DIY rack. I cannot believe how inexpensive 38 mm aluminum (.065 wall) piping is! I have enough for 4 X 30 uprights (to fit into my car) 2 X 30 sides (it is just a small kit after all) and a single 36 front. All this for less than $40 Canadian. I have 6 T-Bar clamps for less than $100. Total cost for the rack with another 6 clamps is around $260.
I looked at a Gibraltar 450QS (just the front uprights and four clamps with a cross bar) and it was going to cost me $250. I guess it would be okay if I were looking for something to hold up heavy toms and cymbal booms but the V's are a little lighter duty.
If you can DIY you may save a bundle on some things!
I went with a DIY rack to make it an easier task to get a few pads to rehearsal (if I can get up the energy!). Maybe I'll post some pics sometime...

Just waiting for the clamps...
Once I have the new rack clamps I will set up a smaller kit and post a picture. Give me about a week.
I spray painted the tubes black and added some clear coat to them. They don't look too bad. I am going to do another coat of black paint and a second clear coat. I figure the paint will still chip a little but clear coat takes five days to harden! I purchased the clear coat for a little body work I was doing on my car and forgot I had it until I started this project. It really brings out the shine of the paint and makes it chip resistent!
I am looking for some rubber feet (4) and some end caps (4), any ideas anyone?Kelly Mercer

DIY rack is ready...
Here is a photo of my scaled down kit with the new rack. This one fits into my car nicely.
I managed to find some 32 mm rubber leg ends at Home depot for just less the $7 Canadian (for all four). I warmed them up using some boiled water and shoved them onto the ends of my rack legs.
Now for the caps!
Enjoy!Attached FilesLast edited by Cyberjam; 10-12-02, 09:23 PM.Kelly Mercer
