    G.A.S = Gear Acquisition Syndrome

    Most common malady of the V-drum owner. Can be graded by severity. Can exist in real and virtual (i.e. GAS by coveting) forms.

    GRADE 0: No gear; individual is free from all signs of virtual GAS and has no determinable interest in V-drums.

    (Next... GRADE 1)

    GRADE 1: Individual first encounters V-drums, either through a "friend", at a trade show, in a music shop or one the Internet. Curiousity is aroused, but no plans to purchase are made.
    Id rather be told the ugly truth than handed a pretty lie.

      Grade 2: Vdrums purchase plans are made but either due to finances, rational thinking or both, low to mid range kits are reviewed and researched based on the assumption that the basics are all you'll really ever need.

        Grade 3: Envy. After purchasing a kit, you begin to notice that there are bigger kits with more and better pads. A little green monster appears on your shoulder and says, "ooh, you want that."

                Grade 6: With your wife having left you and taken the kids, you seek out a downstairs 1-bedroom apartment as close to the airport as possible, and start lining the walls with foam and blankets. You take all your mail at a PO box to prevent anyone planning an intervention from finding you.

                    Grade 7: You spend more time on Vdrums.com and trawling through ebay for last minute drum related bargains than you do playing drums. That third module is only a click away. You have a room full of old drum shells, piezos, wires, soldering equipment, drills, screws, bolts. You start to build a super rack out of scaffold poles. The neighbours are talking about you even more than usual.

                      Grade 8: There is no Grade Eight because we all wish to forget that year of junior high school.

                      Grade 9: You consider buying a larger home for the singular reason that you are sure that your kit will "enjoy it there". The room in which your kit currently resides was formerly a living room, dining room, and an adjoining bedroom; the walls having been removed (even the structural support ones) in the name of Mies Van der Rohe's dictum "Less is more" when it comes to interior space (although certainly not when it comes to gear), but primarily so that you can accommodate the entire kit and all sub-sections in one place without doors. You now refer to this space as your "studio". Your neighbors, in contrast, refer to it as "that large electronics barn with indoor plumbing".

                      You have an uneasy feeling that neighborhood children are watching your house when you're not there and that aluminum foil is an effective deterrent from their penetrating "mind rays".

                              Grade 10: Surrender to Serenity - You realize that V-Drums are your life and you are OK with that. You dedicate your life to the pursuit of creating the "ultimate" kit, knowing that in that kit, you will find the face of God. You start a religion and live in a V-Drums centric commune. Once a year, you create a large Roland "V" made of wicker and burn it. You live off the land so that all monies you acquire will go to new gear.
