The guy has style. Technique. Finesse.

Just look at the other videos by him that are off to the side on the linked site, like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR7KSwjJajw

Three Cup candy i totally agree with you! if you read in his personnel profile hes got a website and a discription of him self and drumming....he has not had one drum lesson from anyone and every vid is produced by himself!! that takes a true drummer! to be as good as him and no lessons what so ever true passion the guy doesnt miss a beat and acually adds more fills then the song requires but doesnt over do it! I love it!

He seems to be pretty good for a young person (assuming a typical number of years study so far) but some of the comments on YouTube are just ridiculous: "Best drummer on YouTube" and "Friggin' amazing". No, I don't think so. Not by a long shot.

I thought I read on one of his posts that he's been playing for 6 years now.

I totally agreee Jim! He's damn good, but not that good.

And, IMO, he overplays... a lot. I realize that he's adding his own "flair" to the tunes. He even says so. But, there's a point where showing off one's drumming skills actually detracts from the song.

A drummer should be an integral part of the music and complement it. He/she shouldn't be a distraction. Again, my opinion.

I would agree, except.... I don't think he cares to maintain the integrity of the song and complement the music. Rather, I'm pretty sure his purpose was to indeed show off his drumming skills and is simply using background music. After all, he posted the video of him drumming... not him and the rest of the band - it was supposed to be all about him and I think he accomplished that quite well.

Now, if it was supposed to be in a band setting then I would fully agree with you. But, IMO I think he is just trying to solo this thing over the song... in which case it was outstanding.

                          Hmmm..... where do I start?

"For a young person"? I guess I am considered an older guy at this point but I know plenty of "young people" who could smear both me and you playing at the same time with one hand tied behind their back... guaranteed.

Secondly, I'm sure you didn't take any of those comments too seriously on YouTube? But in case you did, wouldn't you consider those just opinions? Meaning, who are we to say that a person didn't feel that he was the best (in their eyes)? I do believe that they were just offering up a positive comment though.... which I must say I haven't seen much of those looking back on your posts.

Lastly, you know what they say bud - you are more than welcome to post a video of yourself playing if you don't think he's all that "by a long shot". If he's only pretty good, I'm sure you can at least show us what is really good??

I find it impresive and with only 6 years of experience, it looks like his has dedicate it every minute of it to drumming. I sense some Carter Beuford influence

The guy definitely has taste for soloing. I am full of envy

Quite frankly I agree. BUT he's creative and imaginative AND pretty darn good and has a knack to put all that together in a way you don't hear or see too often.

I did something I learned a long time ago if I had video of somebody's musical performance and had the ability to play it at will.

I first LISTENED to it twice , without WATCHING it. That way you take out any any bias first as far as the visuals. Then I plated it back and watched it too.

Either way, he impressed me. The solo contest I said before didn't have video but nobody really impressed me with his sound though they might have had a good look and flashy appearance to an audience.

Just my 2 cents and some rambling I guess. But just like all performances and performers, people can watch and listen to them and get different impressions based on their own likes and dislikes, perceptive abilities, experience, expectations, and all that happy stuff.
