  • Awakenings

Just thought I'd share with you all my recent awakening and re-discovering of God. Many of you here have already had such an awakening and I thought I had done that years ago, alas, I hadn't REALLY awakened.

Anyway, I'm not going to get all preachy and religious (I will NEVER be religious!!) and have absolutely no intentions of ever getting preachy but I do feel the desire to share my new-found faith and joy

Something that I have recently read and it certainly makes sense to me now is this....

"Someone who has lived in a box without windows for their entire life might genuinely cry out
'there is no sun, it is a myth, a vicious lie and anti-boxism'.
There remains, however the unalterable fact that there is a sun and those that point this out to the one in the box,
in an attempt to enlighten and free them from self-imposed ignorance,
are not automatically 'anti-boxists' or feel any sort of hatred towards boxes or those who live in them at all."

In the last census in Britain, a sizeable percentage gave their religion as 'jedi'...more so than Sihks and Jews if I remember...given the change in your avatar...is there a connection?

        Cheers guys

        Saku,
Last census day here, I refused to fill in my form so they visited me and told me I HAD to fill in the form. I asked whether I could put 'Jedi' as my religion, knowing they had banned it (even though I was quite serious), and they said no.
I then replied that their census form was not compatible with my lifestyle and they left. I never got hassled again and didn't get fined

....oh, and there IS a connection with God and the Jedi lifestyle. Much more so than many realise....... and no, I am not a member of some strange Star Wars cult!!! Although I DO love the films, especially parts IV, V and VI.

I put Jedi, just because I do not believe in anything else and the census is a nonsense.
              I won't disrespect anyone else's choice though.

I must agree with you about census! I am not on the electoral role either (never registered) and have no plans to change that. There are only twelve laws that mean anything to me

I'll give you a clue..... many mistakenly believe there are only ten of them when there is, in fact, twelve

Now there's only one law that applies - sods law.

Congratulations on your awakening. It's great that you are shouting from the rooftop here!

Would I be correct in assuming that the commandments you are referring to are the original ten in Deuteronomy and the two from Mark chapter 12?

At the risk of getting preachy myself, I would have this to say about commandments. It's essential to know them, and they are still meant to guide our moral lives, but far more important is a minute-to-minute relationship with the living God. We get sidetracked by so many things, both in the secular and religious worlds, that we often lose sight of this.

Being a Christian, I believe that Jesus Christ is our sole conduit to God and an eternal relationship with him. Lots of people seem to think that its all about "being good", or at least not as bad as someone else. I embrace the teaching that says it's really about accepting forgiveness and seeking God. Otherwise I would be SOL (Sadly Out of Luck).

I am glad to hear about your awakening. I also understand the idea of finding faith and not being religious. Personally, I have always had a "knowledge" that God is there. I have always seen my faith as a matter of I and God and never thought so much about Jesus or other prophets/teachers.

I think, the only reason for me being a Christian Protestant is the fact that most people came from that background where and when I grew up. This means, that I have never worried too much about any particular religion but did eventually develop a fascination for Jesus of Nazareth. I think, he says a lot of things that make sense, but there are also things that I do not understand.

I have been quite fascinated by some of the Buddhist ideas, and at one point labeled myself as a "zen-christian" in lack of a better word. These days, I simply believe in God and don't REALLY know all that much about him/them/her/us ???

I think we start out at the animal level, where we as small children have no idea that anything like God might possibly exist. Yet, like the animals, we are completely perfect. Later on, we go into the "blind faith" phase, where we just do what they say. The next stage is the "doubt" phase, where we still want to believe but find it increasingly difficult. Even later on, we get to the "crossroads" stage, where we feel that we must either believe or stop believing. Finally, we get to the "free faith" stage, were we see, that there may actually be something after all, but it is a lot simpler that we originally thought.

All this is just my thoughts and I am no authority on the matter, so if anyone disagrees with me, then they are probably right
