I just came across a source that has some great vintage rock dvd's not coded for the U.S., so now I'm in the market for a code-free player. Anyone out there have any suggestions? So far I'm studying the specs on Sony's DVPNS400.

Uh-Oh! - Just learned from surfing the web that many players can be "hacked" w/certain key-sequences from the remote control or by doing some simple h/w mods to the player itself. I'll look into it.

The APEX DIGITAL brand of DVD players seem to be some of the most hackable players out there. I have the AD1500 model that has been relieved of both the dreaded Macrovison (copy protection) and Region Code. I purchased an AD1500 from the local Walmart and had it hacked an hour later.

If you can find the AD1500 (you must get the one with the right series serial number) a CD loaded firmware revision update removes the unwanted features.

The older AD600 series have the ability to remove features with merely the pressing of a few buttons on the remote. The European models also have this feature.
