  • Our AC broke...Again!

So about 2 days ago we noticed the vents blowing out warm air...
We called the tech and the next day he went to the compressor outside to add a few pounds of gas to it as he said it was low. He also suggest we get a new heater and AC as both are very old and normally break around the same time.

Well after he charged the system it seemed to work for a day. This morning it stopped working again so at this time we are looking into new units and plan on getting the heater and AC.

lat time it broke down it was 90F outside, that wasn't fun...
Today its around 80F and so its not as bad, I didn't even really notice it wasn't working until my parents said something haha

We're still not sure what replacement we are going to get. We called for a few quotes for now but may get it done at the beginning of next year since its starting to cool down quite a bit around here. The heater has never let us down in the past and so we feel that will work though the winter.

      talking about price.
When the tech came to fill the compressor with gas he said we would not know the price until a few days after since it goes though their company computer first...

That seemed strange to me. What if they charge $200? The guy was only here for a few minutes and it didnt even fix the problem...
So we are hoping it wont be a huge price for that...

We had to replace our furnace and AC. It sucked, but now our house can get downright chilly. These new models are really efficient.

I just had mine done and he put in 3 lbs. of gas which is standard usually. The service charge was $100 and the gas was $45 he was hear maybe 15 mins.
I will have to replace my unit nest year U am sure I am just trying to get thru till cold weather with this unit .
If you get the same people to install your new AC unit they may credit the charges from the service call to your new AC cost...

90??? HA! That's a cold snap down here! My AC broke down over the summer while we were hitting around 105. I got off cheap with only a $100 system charge, but the technician warned me to start saving for a new unit in another year or two.

Doesn't it suck having to spend thousands of dollars on gear that you can't trigger?

It seems you guys spend a lot of money on cooling. In The Netherlands we spend a lot on heating!
