  • Ever have one of those days?

While browsing a local used music shop. A young man came into the store to sell some music equipment. I noticed this beautiful V cymbal he brought. I asked him what are you selling it for. The guy was waiting for the clerk to give him a price. I asked him that before he sold it, to tell me what they offered and I'd see if I could beat it. " I cleared this with the clerk so I wasn't creating a conflict of interest, and he said it was OK". After a little while I heard the clerk say $40.00.!!! I offered him $50.00 he was happy and so was I. Check this peoples!!!! it was a CY-15R!!! HAAAA! When I got it home I immediately hooked it up, and it worked flawlessly. Sometimes good things do happen!

You got to be in the right place at the right time mate.

It happened to me once. Same situation and I got a high grade shotgun for half the price.

You got to have some luck somewhere along the line hav'nt you. Makes life worth living.

The only way you could have gotten a better steal on that cymbal would have required having John.b's shotgun.

      Congrats!

Let me get this straight. He had a CY-15R and had no idea what it was worth. You "cleared it with the clerk" and the clerk told him $40 but, nice guy that your are, you offered him $50. Golly Gee Whiz! That really was " a steal". In fact, I think it might have been a "double steal" (nod, nod, wink, wink, snicker, snicker)
Kit Pic 1 Kit Pic 2 Kit Pic 3... And FOR SALE I have: 3 PD-9's, MDS-10 purple rack w/cables/pad and cym mounts. See classified posts for details or PM me.

Well being the nice guy I am, I'm willing to trade you a slighty newer CY-8 for that used cymbal of yours - EVEN. I've only played on it a few days, so I'll take one for the team on this one...

Congrats and, no, I haven't had a day like that in recent memory...

              Wait a minute!!!!!

I was robbed by men with a shotgun and they took my CY-15. As I stood there bleeding and dialing 911, I heard the younger man tell the older man that he had a contact in a local music store and usually gets $40 for a CY-15 and $45 for a CY-15 if the ride bell fix has been done.

I know exactly what you mean.

I contribute quite a bit to support the Salavation Army and some other organized charities. One day about 4 years ago, after I had just dropped off some donations at a local Salvation Army store, I did some browsing and saw one of the old (then current) TD6 modules with mount and cord sitting on the shelf in the section with stereo, TV and appliance equipment. Sticker price: $14.99 - they probably thought it was a toy or just didn't know what it was regardless. I bought it with no hesitation.

Took it home, tested it - seemed to work just fine.

This was less than a year after I'd bought my own edrum set, didn't need it, so I put it on eBay. I was new enough to this board and there was a lot of drama with a certain ex-member at the time - and this was before I was a Moderator here - so I didn't think to offer it as a for-sale deal on the board. I don't remember the exact winning bid, but it was several hundred dollars and comparable to other similar auctions' results.

I then rounded off the amount, wrote a check, and took it to the Salvation Army store's manager as a donation. I've done the same thing before then and since with various other type of items I've found in charity thrift shop stores, and know of a few other folks who do the same.
Hart Pro 6.4 (Hammered Chrome), Roland TD-8, Gibraltar Throne w/ Backrest, Tama Iron Cobra Bass Pedal, ALTEC A7-500 "Voice of the Theatre" Speaker/Horn System with Sunn Concert Slave amp and lot of other audio stuff, Sony MDR-7506 Headphones, Zildjian DipSticks - and Czech Skorpian, Heckler & Koch MP5, etc Submachine Guns to stick out the window behind my kit for some quite unique fills...

Some Day Grey... Great story. Your are a better man than I.

Last thing along these lines that I had happen was when I found some ARP engine fasteners at a consignment shop. 4 different boxes for different Ford engines at $2.50 a box. I sold them on Ebay for a total of about $130 dollars. The buyers still got a good deal and I made some quick cash. Everybody happy.

Same thing with the sweet deal on the CY15. The guy probably woulda sold to the place for $40 anyway if you hadn't showed up. The clerk couldn't give a damn either way, and with you, he got an extra $10. You get a SWEET deal. Everybody walks away a winner. Gotta love it.

I found a Roland Cymbal rotation stopper in the local drum shop's junk box and got it for $1. Ok, this is nowhere near as good a story as drdigital's. Or even SDG's.

I always feel bad about those kind of deals because it usually means someone is having some sort of misfortune and needs the cash. On the other hand, it feels nice to be in a position to help out.

They're too many times, that I felt like the "stick" was made for just me...
I just finally got a break.

I've lost more gear to poverty than I could ever list. "to the same shop".
                        Debt waits for no one.
I got a copy of the guys drivers license and phone number,
so I don't know how I could have made this deal anymore legitimate.
He needed cash, I had it. Believe me, he would have taken $45.00
So karma wise, I don't feel I did anything wrong, or took advantage.
                        I don't roll like that...

You are so far removed from what happened, it's just downright rude.
1st. I don't know the clerk. So no inside job here.
2nd. The clerk did not have a way to test it, so the guy got a cheap bid.
3rd. I offered more money than the guy was going to take.
4th. The clerk didn't mind, because he buys acoustic stuff,
He really didn't want it. He's got a whole glass case full of PD-8's
                          he can't get rid of.

So before someone else flames me, understand the circumstance.

OK, so I got a good deal on my shotgun. Thats not all. The house I'm living in at the moment was up for sale at £495K. I had cash and offered £435K and he took it.
I saved £60K. DO I FEEL GUILTY, NOPE. Thats Life. He had a choice.
