  • Maiden's Number of the Beast: Time Sig?

So I'm listening to Number of the Beast right now (6..66 the number ooooof the Beast!)

I'm having a hard time picking out the time sig during the verses... does it change, or is something happening I'm just not hearing??? (I'm an ear drummer with just enough theory to know some basics...forgive me if this is a simple one!)

I don't know that it's easy, because it's so syncopated. But it seems to me the few minutes I listened that it's just 4/4 played at about 180 bpm or so. I think they are just playing so fast the syncopation makes it sound like they are throwing in a 3/4 measure every once in a while. Unless I'm just too cotton-pickin' old and they really are playing 5/4!

The intro is in 5/4. Then during the cresendoing vocal part, they transition to 4/4.
