I am a custom shell builder in the making. If I were to sell a couple of shell packs on this forum for DIY e-drum use, what would be the most popular shell sizes? I was thinking (depth x diametre) 12x14 w/ hoops for the bass, 4-6x12 (2-3) for snare and larger toms and 4-6x10 (2) for smaller toms. This is going by roland specs here. Don't ask me for shells now. It'll be a month or two before I consider doing this. I might pop up and sell an odd shell here and there. The wood will probably be birch if it matters. Pricing, I don't know yet as I'm looking for a cheaper source of veneer.

Popular sizes would probably be the sizes of mesh heads readily available.
Wood doesn't really matter with E-drums but a nice finish (different from the boring Roland) or custom finishes probably would be a hit.

how much would you charge? though any shells for a v-drum conversion project will do, even those cheap imported ones. they're easy to saw in half if required, popular sizes for v-drums are 8", 10" and 12" it doesn't really matter, i recently bought complete a set of shells which included these sizes including rims for about £80.00, leaving me with two oversized ones i sold.Last edited by mystic fred; 06-23-08, 02:02 AM.

Ok
Yeah sounds good but i can get a 2nd hand tom for £10 and i've got the shell, hoops, lugs, lug pins and maybe even the wrap can be re used ... oh! also the bottom head can be re used and maybe t -cut.
Buying seperate costs a fortune and we are all for saving money on a diy unless it's a special project. any shell is good enough cos we are not looking for resonance etc.
Also we are saving trees by recycling but good luck anyway.WEBSITE - http://www.diamondelectronicdrums.com/
