  • Bought a scooter!

    Not drum related -sorry

I have a 7 mile commute to work -mostly on double lane highways.
    I usually drive a 4 cylinder 2000 S-10 pickup and it seemed
kind of goofy to be dragging around all that extra vehicle
    that I'm not even using.

I still need the truck for those Home Depot trips but otherwise, it uses too much gas.
Small truck, just had it tuned up but still sucks gas.

My wife sent me a link to the Genuine Scooter Company site.
I don't know if she was serious or not but I did some research
and a week later I ordered one locally.
    This is it:

    It's a Genuine Buddy 125. I really like it.
It will go 65 MPH and so far I've gotten 78 mpg

Now that I'm getting used to it I think it's a blast to drive!
No shifting -just twist and go!

They can't keep them in stock. 2 days and they are all gone.
The only reason I got one was that I ordered that color and
it just happened to be in the next shipment.
    Otherwise I would've been out o luck.

They're in such demand right now that the dealers can't order
a specific color -the dealers take whatever is on the truck,
(I repainted the panels that are now off-white the day
after I bought it -much to my wife's puzzling looks).

$3,300 out the door including tag, title, dealer prep & destination charges.
Two year warranty and 1 year roadside assistance.
$168 a year for insurance in NW Florida.

I will start taking it to work Monday.
$6 (@ todays prices) for a weeks worth of trips to work?
    Yay!

Now we return you to drum related posts.....

My daughter's fiance got a scooter a couple of years back - sort of half-motorcycle-half-scooter. There are several Chinese companies cranking these out for pretty low prices, and I imagine it will take a while for the market to sort out the good from the bad. Since we were helping with financing, the one thing I insisted on was that the scooter come from a local shop who would handle the warranty issues.

Hope all goes well with your scooter. For God's sake, WATCH OUT FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS! I used to drive a moped in college and I nearly got run down several times. People just aren't used to looking for them, although that's likely to change as time goes on.

Interesting... My wife's been wanting one for work as well... Thanks for the write-up!

So now do the jokes have to go, "How do you tell a drummer is happy?"

"By the bugs in his teeth?"

I looked and looked and can't figure out where you would put your kit!

I have toyed with either getting a scooter or motorcycle for a long time for just driving around town, but.... My city, Colorado Springs, without question has the largest number of inconsiderate, selfish, dangerous and idiot drivers per square mile in the continental United States. It would mean taking my life into unnecessary peril. In my case, four wheels are better than two here, so I bought a Prius instead. I love it. Averaging 52 mpg, but definitely more expensive than a scooter!

I drive an 2007 4cyl Accord which sips gasoline like an old lady at a tea party even when I'm not being overly concered how I'm driving. I've been considering the scooter idea too though. (Find my self become far "greener" the older I get.)

            I only drive 5 miles to work...but 78mpg is a lot better than 30.

-If you don't mind my asking...what was the price?

...oh and the "Creamsicle" paint job... DIG IT!!!

EDIT: Hey I forgot to ask...is the engine a 2 or 4 stroke?

Yep, me too. Amazing what age does. I've come a long way from my '79 Trans Am back in high school.

Scooters are awesome! It's great fun to just jump on, twist and go!

I no longer have my Zuma but I just sold two of my motorcycles and picked up another one. I'm down to four so maybe a Zuma is in order!

TLMR won't let me get a scooter. It's not that we can't afford it, she just thinks I would look ridiculous - a big man on a little scooter.

The price is stated in the original post.
                    ($3,300 otd)

                    evil1rox,
The sole importer in the US is near you. Chicago.

                    It's a 4 stroke 125cc.
They do make a 2 stroke (50cc) but I'll be damned if I'm gonna mix gas & oil
for another machine -I have to do that enough for my chainsaw and weedwacker.

Thanks for the kind words on this, guys.
I never did the 2 wheel thing (except for a friend's mini bike decades ago)
and I really, really dig the unique feeling while riding it.

I thought my midlife crisis was my TD-20 set.
Maybe this is midlife crisis part II.

But it's not my fault! My wife sent me the link!!!!

Bought my wife a scooter couple of years ago and she loves it...
I have a CBR600 but do enjoy ripping her scooter out if it's a trip to the shops as it's real handy to store items under the seat and between ya feet.Their so light and you can put them anywhere too.

I'm seriously considering that "Stella" in army green and putting a M.A.S.H. theme on it.

But I gotta find me one of these helmets.
