  • Zappa's Baby Snakes...e-drum?

Just got the FZ Baby Snakes DVD and I am wondering....what the heck are the e-drums that Bozzio has set up here?
And why do they look like they're encased in Lucite?

Ah 1977 and the Syndrum. (not to be confused with the Synare)
They were encased in lucite and had mesh heads. And went doooooom.

It was the "Syndrum Quad" (set of four with a synth controller) and you can see the synth in his solo where he controls the created sound.

        Hey Guys,

Great DVD - my Mrs got it for me for xmas.
It's a good look back in history to see how far our eDrums have come - but thank goodness those doooo sounds are gone now......

Any thoughts on Mr Bozzio's playing? I like his kick drum work

Love bozzio! FZ's live in Newyork album was my first taste of a real drummer back in high school when I was learning. Always wanted to play like that, still can't, probably never will...

I was at the Modern Drummer drumfest in NJ back in the early '90s....and Terry Bozzio was simply amazing. He was playing some very intricate beats that had a room full of drummers with their jaws on the floor. Then he went into describing exactly what he had been playing, and we were all scratching our heads. Bozzio is on a whole different drumming planet....

Probably dating myself here, but the Zappa/Bozzio recordings were my main influence during my early-mid teen years. I don't regret following Terry through his Zappa/UK/MP stint... it's what really theorically educated me the most and challenged my chops at such an early age before I got into Peart and drum corp. I miss those days... and chops.

                A to E conversion?

Wow, I knew Chad Wackerman used electric pads but I never knew that Bozzio did.

Could you imagine converting his kit to electric? The cables alone would weigh like, 50 lbs!
