Goto > http://www.ntrack.com/. It's a free (shareware) home studio with 90% functionality. My brother (Guitarist) just told me to get this. I don't yet know how to use it though! Here's http://www.ntrack.com/download.shtm the actual program & user's manual in PDF.
    Good Luck, Kids !

You have a couple of other options... Protools Free (www.digidesign.com/ptfree) is an 8-track version of protools that is really nice, but only works on Windows 98 and Macs. A Soundblaster Live card is also recommended.

There is also TC8, a nice, easy to use 8-track recorder available from www.tonos.com. It costs $30, but is compatible with any Windows or Mac and works with a broader range of soundcards, including my Aureal. It is designed as a virtual tapedeck, so there is no wave editing or anything, but it is well designed for online collaboration.

TC8 can import WAV files (AIFF on Mac), so you will also need an MP3 to WAV converter. A good one can be found at http://www.convert-mp3-to-wav.com, and can be registered for $20.

I use TC8 and the converter on Windows 2000 and swap files with my brother over email all the time. They are fantastic tools and well worth the small amount of cash necessary to register.
