  • Great drum intros!

Hey, gang...been kind of quiet around here lately. Let's toss around our favorite drums only intros; intros that really kick off, or even define a song. Here are some of mine:

    "Rock n Roll" -Led Zep
    "Painkiller" -Judas Priest
"We're Not Gonna Take It" -Twisted Sister (come on, it WAS a great inro, admit it!)

Let's hear some of your favorites

My favorite drum intros (not in any order)are:

          1. Middle Of The Road - Pretenders/Martin Chambers
          2. I Want You To Want Me - Cheap Trick/Bun E Carlos
          3. Ain't That A Shame - Cheap Trick/Bun E Carlos.
          4. Freedom At Point Zero - Jefferson Starship/Aynsley Dunbar
          5. Rock Music - Jefferson Starship/Aynsley Dunbar

          8. American Band - Grand Funk/Don Brewer
          9. Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper/Neil Smith(???)
          10. Introduction - Elvis Presley/Ronnie Tutt
          11. Finish What Ya Started - Van Halen/Alex Van Halen
          12. Stargazer - Ritchie Blackmore/Cozy Powell

I like things that are nice and "musical" instead of a splash of flash like in the beginning of Dust In The Wind.

Any Gadd, Rock & Roll, Painkiller and Over The Mountain are all excellent also.

Oh Harlock...that Rush gif is COOL!

I agree, c. jude. The intro doesn't have to be flashy to be cool...but some of the flashier ones, like Painkiller, do help to prime the listener for the song's mood.

Also, to further acknowledge your point, I submit two more: "Everybody's Working for The Weekend" -Loverboy (cowbell then FLAM!). Also, "Billie Jean" -Michael Jackson...just groove.

Well, one more...how about just that cool little hi-hat tickle to start off "Every Little Thing She Does" by The Police.

                            To continue c.judes's simplicity line:

Paradise City - Guns and Roses.

The song wouldnt be the same without it!

                              For total simplicity:

Phil Rudd's count-off of AC/DC's "Back in Black". Simplicity at its best.
