This might sound really stupid to all you pro's but how can i download other v kits and get them into my td-10. my computer is not near the drums.

You can't do that with the Roland module....distance has nothing to do with it. the module does not support that...

If you want to load the customized kits of others without using a computer, you will have to have someone put them on an M512E memory card and then get them to loan it out or work out a swap arrangement.

You are limited to the sounds in the TD-10. You can't load new sounds. You also need to format the card to the same versions, i.e., TD-10 vs TDW-1.

Since the card costs close to $100, I doubt you will get many volunteers. Hmmmm, maybe I can start a side business as a card/kit broker.

I don't know what you guys are talking about!
Lee Overstreet created a program by which we can download others V-drum patches via midi to our modules. In fact there is a whole forum here dedicated to it - 'VkitTrans'.
I am by no means an expert on how it works and all the tech stuff but years ago we were sharing patches like there was no tomorrow.
I haven't actually downloaded anything in the last 2 or so years - but there is no reason why it wouldn't still work is there?

'I only ever quote myself - except when I quote someone else' - me

, plenty of , and , , triggered acoustics, , and a plethora of PA blah blah freakin blah...I mean does anyone care about the specifics of pedals, speakers, processors, hardware or anything that I'm using?? Hmmm, maybe this is an appropriate place to mention that I tried out a new cymbal stand the other day...

You are right, Steveo. But, Neal says his drums aren't near his computer. To use Vkit trans, you will need a cable that will reach, or you could always disconnect your module and bring it to where your computer is upload some patches and then return the module and plug it all back up. Kind of a pain, though.

There have been less than a half dozen files put on this site this year (I'm not counting the zero bytes files). In addition, the posted program was for TD-10 and does not work with the TDW-1. Lee sent a beta version of the expanded VkitTrans and then said it seemed to work ok so he wasn't doing anything special to formally release it. To my knowledge it is not posted on this site. Either you write to Lee to get a copy or someone who owns one sends it to you. I think the file extenion is the same for both versions so you need to keep them separate.

Some have tried loading the TD-10 files into the TDW-1 using the expanded software. It works for me and has for others, but some have reported problems in this area. Lee does not recommend doing it. I tell people to try it but warn them to get a mem card for backup since it could trash your kits.

So, I hear what you're saying, but there has been limited activity in this area on this site and they have not formally supported the expanded version.

There is no reason why it wouldn't work, but it is limited to TD-10 owners. It would make sense to use the expanded version and maintain a separate area for those files. Someone needs to see what the software does with V-cymbal control expanded units, since those settings might cause a glitch. Of course, there needs to be a user interest.

It would be nice if all versions had a place on this site for this sort of thing. It sure would have been nice if Roland included software with the purchase of each unit. (I can't believe I said that!)

Look into MIDI data trandfer in your TD manual.
True. I used SysEx97 to save the TD-10EXP files until Lee updated his program. What I didn't like about SysEX97 (and I think Midiox does it too) is that if you save kit #40, when you restore it, it automatically restores to #40. Lee's allows you to overwrite any kit you choose when you load the file to TD. Ok, so sue me cause I'm a bit picky about stuff like that. Anyway, I figured it out and listed the kit number in the file name so I would know what I was overwriting.

Perhaps, if we selected one of these programs as a standard for the site, each TD group could once again have an active patches area. It's a thought.
