  • TD10/TD8 question to those who've used both..

    Greetings drummers..

I have a TD-10 kit I bought with a friend.. most of the time it lives at my place, but he's doing a project and needs to take it away.

I happened to be in a music shop and noticed a TD-8 brain lying around.. I'm wondering if it would be worth picking this up for those times when the kit isn't around? Or should I just print the tracks as audio and not worry about it?

    Comments appreciated.. thanks!

Sorry for being blunt, but what are you talking about?

You mean you have the kit left to use and no module so you want to try the td-8? Or this is not for playing but rather for working just with sounds and no pads/cymbals.

Please more info if you would, otherwise:

OK.. I have a Vdrum set, with TD10, yadda yadda.. it's co-owned with a friend, who will need to take it out of my studio soon to lay down drums for one of his projects.

I have many songs that use the TD10 for drums, currently as MIDI files in my DAW. I won't hear the drum parts once my buddy takes the whole td-10 based kit (unless I dump 'em as audio), get it? MIDI files, not audio files.

                          The questions are..

                          1. Will the TD-8 respond well enough to the TD-10's MIDI? Same dynamics, positioning, etc?
                          2. Are the sounds close? Will I be annoyed at any quality difference?
                          3. What's a good price for a TD8 brain (only)?

                          Thanks..

                            1. Some sounds are close, some are identical, some are entirely different, and some are simply not there. The TD-8 has a better sound quality, but sadly Roland changed the sound numbers, so there'd be some editing and reassigning on your part... dynamics are identical, I think, yeah, they are. Yup, trust me on this one, sir.
I'd dump your tracks as audio, mate, it'll save you 700-800 bucks and a litte grief.
                            2. You'll be annoyed that you paid so much for a TD-10, like I was when the TD-8 came out
                            17. I've seen 'em for around $695
                            39. Don't eat the vicar, he's been there for 2 weeks, and nobody's touched him.
