  • need advice - new edrummer

First, thanks to everyone at this site!! have been reading posts evryday for a few months after selling my Ludwigs Acoustic Setup. I have decided what I want to do and am ready to put together a nice edrum kit. budget is around $3,000. Here's the problem I have: I love the Td-8, with the Roland pd-120 for snare, pd-100's or 120's for toms, New Gibraltar curved rack, and the new Roland Cymbals. I have seen the new roland package kits with their new cymbals but can't go to $5,000 for it. Plus, I really like the td-8 better, for what I need to do with it. I have seen the great posts about the new Hart Pads and ecymbals II also. I realize that I can piecemeal it together, but am wondering if someone knows of a retailer who will do a custom job like this...OK, let's hear from anyone and everyone on this...

Be sure to testdrive before you buy.

I've had huge problems with "foreign" pads on both the Vdrums and ddrums.

Thanks guys. Karma, one big question: have you tried the Roland Cymbals compared to the Hart EcymbalsII?? Putt, I know there are alot of people who have strongly written that the roland pads are best for the roland brains and im just trying to see if going with the Hart Pads (saving me $700 for the 3 toms and BD)is not something I will be sorry for; I have checked out bpmmusic.com and found that they have some of the best prices for this gear; anyone have comment on this retailer? I am wondereing if they will put together a "custom" setup (not The Roland vdrum 'custom' setup...) for me. I have tried the new roland cymbals at my local shop mated to the td-10 exp.and loved them, I am wondering if they will have same result with the td-8 brain...I haven't seen too much feedback about this...Thanks again everyone.

This will set you back more than $3000 I reckon. I have a similar setup and it's already broke $4000, and I don't even have the v-cymbals yet, although I did buy one SRM450. Putting a kit together piece-by-piece is at least as expensive as a pre-packaged kit, probably more. The main advantage is that you get exactly what you want, and for me at least, that is a big advantage. Anyway I'm sure you will be happy with this setup. I love mine although there are a few things that really piss me off, namely the hot spots and the "redundant" mixers, but I guess you can't win them all...
          Roland TD-20 v1.08, various v-drums and v-cymbals, Yamaha KP65's, Axis pedals, Gibraltar hardware, Mackie 1202/SRM450 (pre-china)

3K? You may find a used V-Custom set cheap enough to have enough $ left over for a PD-100/120 and a few V-Cymbals. As for piece-mealing a set by a retailer, I'm sure most would do it for the "right" price. As mentioned, you are much better off doing it yourself. It's not rocket science, really. A lot of folks here have done just that and I know they are more than willing to help you out. To locate these fine individuals and some great pictures of their setups ( some even have their own web-sites with how-to's) use the search engine.

            Good luck,
            -Marc.

Karma - is that pearl rack you have curved like the new gibraltar? I love that curved rack and have used it at a studio---SOLID.
I just heard back from bpmmusic.com that the td-8 and the v-cymbals are both out of stock right now. I get the feeling that most gear retailers these days keep maybe 1 or 2 pieces of any item in stock and just order everything else when it picks up!!!
have to admit, those new Hart ecymbals look great. Do you have the Hart HH controller or the Roland unit?

Barry,no,the pearl rack is not curved. It has square tubing.I like that because something round over a period of time is gonna slip. And,I set it up and stood on the thing, and I'm a fat white country boy.
I use the fd-7 from roland right now,but I am getting the hart controller.Iwish I would have got It first,oh well,Hindsight is 20/20.
You may try jim at drumworld, you may get a surprise on the price and availability.

                    bad karma,
Why would you prefer the Hart HH over the FD-7? The Fd-7 is considered the best, industry wide.Just curious.
