Hi Everyone,
First a bit of background. Began learning drums and percussion back it 1974 when i was about 10 and played for many years. Home-grown bands, marching bands, H.S. Jazz band, music theory, recording studio, touring... Sadly, been away from the drums for over 15 years now. i owned Synare/Syndrum, Simmons, Tama acoustic (think of a set/mix echoing Neil Peart and Bill Bruford in the mid 80's).
Well, decided to get back into it and got the Roland V-Session after much research and thought. All i can say is WOW! Now don't get me wrong, wish it sampled and a few other tricks the old Simmons ?SDX? did. Still, the cymbals sound impressive (all things considered) and the "feel" and playability/flexibility is outstanding. Sure, a few minor quibbles, yet all in all a very impressive set IMHO.
Received the set at 12pm, had it all setup and basically tweaked by 3pm and have been playing for many hours. Hmmm... better spend some time off the set and back on the basic rudiments and study my Jack DeJohnette/Charlie Perry "The Art of Modern Jazz" book (first edition no less bought new way back when).
Thanks for your time and reading my rantings. Just wanted to also thank everyone (BIG PROPS) as i have been silent lurking for a while getting tips and tricks. Keeps me from asking the same thing 100's of other did.
Have a great night and as always...
Enjoy the music (Rush "Hemispheres" right now),
