    Who is your most EMBARASSING drumming influence?

    We have all seen the threads on biggest influences (Peart, Bruford, Palmer, Copeland, etc.)So, it's time for something a bit different...

    Who is your most embarrasing influence?
    In other words, who did you used to listen to, and you find (unfortunately) that their drumming still exists in your own bag of tricks, even today?

    I would have to say mine is Jerry Speiser.
    Do you recognize the name? Think, "I come from a land down under." Yes, it's true...I was and still am influenced by the guy from Men At Work. Go ahead laugh, BUT- go to Napster and download some of the songs from the first 2 albums (Business As Usual and Cargo.) Jerry Speiser is quite a good drummer, and quite imaginitive with his techniches. Good songs are "Touching the Untouchables", People Just Love To Play With Words", and "Be Good Johnny." Seriously, go check 'em out.

    OK. I have admitted to my shameful secret...who's next?

        Ah, yes. Stryper. Guilty as charged. When I was 16, I remember thinking how awesome the quadruplets at the end of "To Hell With The Devil" were... ah, youth.

          Ummm Charlie Watts? Ok, I'm kidding, but as a kid, I was impressed with Dave Clark of the Dave Clark Five. He smiled, sang and played standing up. How much more cool can you be?

            He just looked like he was standing up, I didn't think stools went that high.

              Well thanks alot jrcel! Since 1964 I've been believing he was standing up. DC is no longer my hero!

                  It would have to be a tie between Steven Adler (GnR) with that fill (bass-snare-bass-bass-snare-bass-snare-bass-bass). It might be the only fill you ever hear at Appitite. An Tico Torez (sp) (Bon Jovi) sigh...I can't help it......

                        I have been lurking and miss some of you very much...some of you others not so much. Feefer!!! Why would NIgel be an embarrassment? He made all of those tunes sound very rich, very full. When I ever I hear old Elton tunes, they feel great, much in part to how musical Nigel was. Very solid, never overplayed, always played for the song. Every songwriters dream I would think.Rethink your stance there my friend! Dave Clark, always sat down. He made some very wise business decisions in terms of buying early videos.I think he is very wealthy now.
                        Well gang, the last post I made here, I said I was going Yamaha DTXtreme. Stupid call to make before trying the instrument. I played the Yamaha product and did not like anything about it at all.I sold my V's,my cases, my upgraded module, my 15 PAK...and am very sorry for it, and will be purchasing again soon. I look forward to joining the group here again very soon....

                            Phil Collins (eeek!) Actually, his early days playing for Genesis were pretty cool. The guy should have stuck to just playing the drums though. These days, if his name is on a song it's almost guaranteed to make you lose your lunch.
