  • Price Drop Predictions?

Hey, I was thinking about getting a Yamaha DTX 2.0 (yes rubber pad setup), the main reason being the price. I`ll have to make my decision in about 2 weeks, so I have to time to go out and play some V's before I decide. Im curious if any of you think that the introduction of the New V-Drum Sets and/or the new Yamaha Product will make a serious decrease in V-drum Price. There's no way I`ll have enough money to get a V-drum Pro (which is what Id like) for over 3,000 but If anyone thinks in a month or two, prices will drop I could wait. If not, I dont really loose anything. Any predictions?

No price reductions on the horizon. The dollar is high, the economic weather bad (General Motors just fired 26,000 jobs and the internet market crashes) so ...

Harold: If economic predictions are bad and big layoffs are starting, wouldn't that mean
      lower prices could be expected?

I still think Roland's list price and the initial asking price are not indicative of what we will be seeing 6-9 mos from now when the dust settles. I believe the V-Pro list has always been $5k. Discounter prices started at $3500-3700. I got them for $3200 1 yr & 9mos ago. They dropped further and then seemed to go up a bit in most places. This is typical and I would expect more of the same on the new models (unless money/jobs are flowing freely and supplies are limited - which doesn't seem to be the direction of the economy right now.)

Curious as to why you think prices will remain high.

        Dear Professor Boingo Greenspan,

No, ofcourse not. I was already born in the early 1980s (where you?). The economic wheater was bad in those days (though not so bad as in the 1930s), and a dollar became less worth than before. In Holland we call this inflation. I don't know the correct English word for it. But you needed more dollars to buy goodies than before. Only when the economics are good and countries decide to lower their taxes, then ....

Na, anyhow: in Holland the Roland prices still get higher and higher.

Yup, inflation is the correct term.

When I did an economics course (as part of Engineering?!?!) at university, I even understood why it happened once!

Well I have to admit, I barely passed economics and all I have to go on is common sense. If people are losing jobs and money is tight and you are a company with inventory of an expensive (in this case) fairly high profit non essential item, who are you gonna sell them to? It sure would seem to me you would be forced to reduce your price unless there are enough "very wealthy" out there buying. No need to reply. It's obvious why I barely passed - I just don't understand this stuff.

V Pros have dropped $200-300 almost everywhere except zZounds. BPM music had them for $3129 delivered a couple of weeks ago. Even Mars has lowered the price.

I'd need to drag out my economics books to undestand it again, but I seem to remember the reasons seemed to make perfect sense.

Inflation is where prices rise slowly over time, but it doesn't really mean things get more expensive because in most cases wages increase at the same (or higher) rate, also interest rates are tightly linked, so it all evens out in the end. IIRC, a 4% rate of yearly inflation is actually a sign of a strong economy.

So don't worry, inflation doesn't really hurt the consumer.

Neihter do I. I just overstated with inflation. Apart from this: the prices still raise. When I got the TDW-1 in june 2000 it was 610 dutch guilder. One month later it was 680 dutch guilder.

                  Ohh... dutch guilder ... Na...

Well, I own a DTX and there is nothing wrong with it, it's a good natural sounding electronic drum set. The pads have alot of bounce and you can trigger the rim without hitting the surface at the same time. One word of advice though, the factory rim surface sounds suck, there are some really good matched snare samples {rim, center} on snare souns 100-117, using these together will yield a very natural sound from center to rim shot. As good as I've heard anywhere, including Vdrums, my opinion. As far as the economics lecture, you must forgive us, we tend to bicker about nothing from time to time.
