Quite a while back, someone was talking about covering the white shells with wallpaper. Then there were discussions on striping the covering and painting the shells and it ended up with talk about decals. I don't believe anyone ever really said they did anything. Is there some reason you couldn't apply paint directly to the white shells and has anyone done anything to change their appearance?

Try www.drumspan.com They make fabric wraps for drums. I saw a picture of REMO Legaro drums with the wraps on them. They look pretty close to the V Pro's dimesions and the company claims to customise. Also There's a Roland Users Group magazine out there with Lenny Kravitz on the cover and his drummer has a red sparkle finish V-Pro kit. I know I have a copy around here somewhere...

I have customized my Vpro . I went to a local graphic shop. They used an aluminium wrap that is used for auto detailing. I chose Black Ultra Metalic. (it is like a sparkle finish). I removed all of the hardware, trigger mechanism and the cover over the 1/4 jack output. (The cover was attached with double sided permanent tape). The rubber on the bottom bearing edge was left on. The factory Vinyl wrap was also left on. They wrapped the drum with the new colored wrap (over top the old)and matched up the seems. I let the shop do it because they are the proffessionals. I know I would have had bubbles and that it would have been very difficult to lay flush with rubber on bottom. The end result was great. After reinstalling the hardware and the guts, each and every drum looked stunning. To take it one notch forward, I wanted the rack a differnt color. I like the steel bars Roland uses but they are powder coated. I did not want to have them stripped and powder coated a differnt color, that would have been to expensive. I contacted a friend who works with metal. We both agreed that paint would chip, so he gave me a metal dye. I don't know what it is called but I do know you cannot by it in stores. You need a resporator with a special filter when using this stuff. I also know it is availabe in many differnt colors. The end result was great my Roland rack is now black. The powder coat is just as durable as before, exept it is black. The Giblaltor and Percussion plus clamps I use do not scratch the finish. One more step forward I took a sample of the new color wrap to an autobody friend of mine. He matched the wrap with a top grade automotive paint. On the PD-9's and PD-7's I stripped the rubber, removed the triggers (becareful not to break the rim trigger)and metal that is used to attach the pad to the rack. So basically I had the white plastic piece underneath the PD-9. I had them painted (again by a proffessional)the same color has the new wrap. The end result was also great. After putting everthing back together it looks like A factory Roland VPro but in Black Sparkle and a black powder coated rack.
Total price.
Black Ultra metallic wrap-$100.00
Black Ultra metallic paint-$45.00
Painter labor-$40.00
Black metal dye?
Finished product-Priceless
I love the new look. I hated the white and the blue. I almost forgot on the bottom of the PD-9 and PD-7 I had the graphics shop make new Roland Stckers for the bottom. I had them made in brushed metal so they stand out. I hope this was not to long winded. Good luck!
